Half of the skull is missing, 95% damage to the left brain... Former flight attendant, even her husband can't recognize her
Even though 95% of the left brain is damaged...
It's a miracleㅠㅠ
The KBS1 'Morning Yard' broadcast on the 9th was conducted under the 'Blooming Life Lessons' corner.
Ueunbin Woo, who appeared as a guest on this day, shared her story of how she went from being a flight attendant to suddenly becoming an aphasia patient. She said, "It's been almost a year since the accident. On January 27, 2024, I had a major accident. That day, just like today, I was on my way to give a lecture. I was about to give interview preparation tips for job seekers when I suddenly fell backward on the sidewalk and hit my head and back quite hard," she recalled.
Woo Eun-bin said, "Actually, I don't remember anything from that day, perhaps because I injured my head. Fortunately, I was injured right in front of my house, so I was discovered by passersby and was able to be taken to the emergency room immediately." However, as a result, 95% of her left brain was damaged.
He said, "This is an MRI taken immediately after the accident. His head was shattered, resulting in severe brain hemorrhage and brain swelling. The hemorrhage was so severe that 95% of the left hemisphere, responsible for language, was damaged, and blood also spilled into the left ear and beneath the frontal lobe, damaging the olfactory and visual nerve cells. The lumbar vertebra fracture was also serious," describing the severity of the situation.
Next, the doctor in the emergency room told our family that there was a 20-30% chance of survival before surgery. He also said that even if she survived, she would have speech, cognitive, hearing, and olfactory impairments. Most of all, she would be unable to speak. He said it would be difficult for a woman in her 30s to live a normal life.
Woo Eun-bin stated, "In front of the operating room, my family was just praying while waiting for me to wake up. I underwent a craniotomy that exposed one-fifth of my left skull for over four hours. At first, I woke up after the surgery, but I couldn't even comprehend what was happening. It didn't feel real, and since I couldn't see myself in a mirror, I had no idea I was injured at all."
Especially, he said, "What was even more shocking was that there was my husband in front of me, but I couldn't recognize him. My husband is younger than me, and I called him 'Oppa.' I said, 'Please untie me, I want to go out, help me.'" He even couldn't recognize his mother when he saw her. The only person he recognized was our father, and he shared the special bond he has with his father.
Ueunbin's father said, "Even now, just thinking about that time tears my heart apart. I was in a terrible state back then, but I tried to stay calm and keep my composure, thinking that I should be the one to stay strong." When asked if he felt upset that his wife did not recognize her daughter, he replied, "During that period when life and death were uncertain, I didn't think about that at all. I was just so grateful that she woke up and could speak, and that anyone could recognize her. Even now, I am simply grateful every day," which evoked a touching response.
