Carcinogenic substances in children's gifts... Temu Santa Claus exceeds domestic standards by 215 times
Seoul City has conducted safety inspections on children's products in celebration of the Christmas season.
It has been reported that phthalate-based plasticizers and lead in children's products purchased through overseas direct purchase have been detected exceeding domestic standards.
It's really shocking...
Santa Claus decoration toys of 2 types were found to contain phthalate plasticizers (DEHP, DBP, DINP) up to 215 times the domestic standard, and lead exceeded the limit by up to 11 times, so we need to be even more careful when purchasing.
Please refer to the photo carefully.. You absolutely should not purchase that.
Since Christmas is approaching, you will probably buy many gifts..
I also need to choose a good gift for the childㅠㅠ
This inspection targeted Christmas season toys and other children's products sold on Temu, Shein, and AliExpress, testing for the presence of harmful chemicals and durability.
Six products classified as "toys" were found to contain harmful substances such as phthalate-based plasticizers and lead exceeding domestic standards, or failed to meet domestic physical test standards.
In particular, two types of Santa Claus decoration toys were found to contain phthalate plasticizers (DEHP, DBP, DINP) up to 215 times the domestic standard, and lead levels exceeded the standard by up to 11 times.
Phthalate-based plasticizers are endocrine-disrupting substances that can affect reproductive functions such as decreased sperm count, infertility, and preterm birth. Contact may cause irritation to the eyes and skin. Among them, DEHP (di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate) is classified as a possible human carcinogen (Group 2B) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
If exposure to lead exceeds safety standards, it can harm reproductive functions and increase the risk of cancer. Especially during pregnancy, it can affect brain development and may cause problems with a child's learning and behavior.
Four toy products that received a non-conformance judgment were found to not meet domestic standards in physical tests.
First, the 'sticker product' type 1 had a small part fall off during testing, but there was no warning indicator.
The remaining three products, including Biz Toys, were found to have a potential risk of injury when used by children during the 'Sharp Edge' test.
These products already have sharp ends exposed, such as plastic tongs or wooden sticks, or develop sharp ends after torsion and tensile tests, such as on fixed transparent plastic plates.
Since April of this year, the city has been conducting safety inspections twice a month on overseas direct purchase platform products with high domestic user numbers. To ensure the safe consumption of citizens, the city plans to continuously promote safety inspections of overseas direct purchase children's products, considering seasonal purchasing demands and consumer issues.
