The price of kimbap (one roll), a national staple, has risen by 5.3%, the largest increase among major restaurant menu items over the past ten months. Jajangmyeon and bibimbap also rose by 5%, adding to the burden of dining out expenses. With the soaring won-dollar exchange rate stemming from the Middle East war and the US presidential election, coupled with the uncertainty surrounding the impeachment, projections suggest that rising food prices will continue into next year.

 

According to local price information from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 15th, the average price increase for eight restaurant menus in Seoul from January to November this year was 4.0%. The price of a roll of kimbap rose 5.3%, from 3,323 won in January to 3,500 won last month. During the same period, bibimbap and jajangmyeon both rose 5.0%, from 10,654 won to 11,192 won, and from 7,069 won to 7,423 won.

 

The price of 200g of pork belly, considered the most popular Korean restaurant menu item, rose 3.4% from 19,429 won to 20,083 won, breaking the 20,000 won mark. Samgyetang (samgyetang) also rose 2.5%, from 16,846 won to 17,269 won, and kimchi stew with rice rose 2.4%, from 8,000 won to 8,192 won.

 

The rising price trend is expected to continue into next year.
