"These days, people in their 20s buy this for 200,000 won" Sold out immediately after release... Turns out, it's something.
[Herald Economy=Reporter Kwon Je-in] "It's great that I can print photos in just a few seconds and share memories in person."
These are the impressions of a reporter after using Canon Korea's mini photo printer 'Selphy QX20' for two weeks. It was quick and convenient to connect simply and print photos that were only viewed on a smartphone screen. Especially, at a year-end gathering with friends met after a long time, printing and sharing the photos taken that day became another memory in itself.
The Selfie QX20, which was newly released last October, is characterized by its ability to print high-quality photos anywhere. It is compact enough to fit in one hand and weighs 455 grams, making it easy to carry around for external appointments. Additionally, it has improved sharpness performance compared to its predecessor, the Selfie QX10, resulting in more natural colors and delicate portrait expressions.
The Selfie QX20 was convenient to carry in a bag due to its small size and light weight, making it ideal for year-end gatherings. Once connected to a smartphone, it was easy to select photos through a dedicated app, and printing photos took only about 40 seconds, making it easy to print multiple copies as gifts for everyone attending the gathering. Bringing it to year-end events and printing instant photos to give as gifts also became a fun activity.
Additionally, with the dedicated app 'Selfie Photo Layout,' users could freely decorate their photos. It was possible to record the date the photo was taken or draw hand sketches directly. Up to six photos could be collaged, and various frames and stamps such as cake, heart, and star shapes were used to match the mood of the day.
With the launch of the Selfie QX20, we introduced card-sized printing paper, allowing users to print photos of various sizes without editing. Previously, to fit the photos into a square size, parts of the image had to be cropped, but now they can be printed in their original form.
In addition, the back of the photographic paper can also be used as a sticker, making it suitable for diary decoration (daku), interior design, and more. Daku is a hobby that has gained popularity mainly among people in their 20s and 30s who prefer an "analog sensibility," and simply cutting out and pasting photos decorated freely could create a convincing impression. Furthermore, the Selfie QX20 features a special protective coating (overcoating method) that is resistant to external contamination, preserving photo quality without discoloration for up to 100 years, making it suitable for various uses.
The 20th anniversary limited package of the SELPHY QX20 is gaining popularity mainly among people in their 20s and 30s. According to Canon Korea, the package, which includes a dedicated pouch, tin case, stickers, and more, sold out of the first batch within two weeks of release. Canon Korea plans to prepare and sell a larger quantity in the second round of sales.
