Patient with peritonitis dies after 7 hours in hospital... Government "Investigate and formulate measures"
It's really so shocking and heartbreaking ㅠㅠ
If you had received emergency surgery and treatment, you wouldn't have passed away.
It's so unfortunate.
I wonder how many hospitals I've moved around toㅠㅠ
There was no hospital available for surgery, and after wasting about 7 hours, they ultimately passed away...
Sigh.. Just thinking about it makes my blood run backwards..ㅠㅠ
I hope this will never happen again in the future.
A man in his 50s dies after repeatedly visiting the emergency room in Gyeongnam; Ministry of Health and Welfare reviews facts and considers direct investigation
The health authorities stated, "We will investigate the facts and consider related measures" regarding a man in his 50s who, despite complaining of abdominal pain in the early morning hours, was unable to find a hospital that could perform surgery and ultimately died after wasting about seven hours.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Gyeongnam Fire Department on the 17th, a report was received around 3:28 a.m. on the 6th of last month that a man in his 50s, Mr. A, was experiencing abdominal pain and vomiting at a house in Yeoncho-myeon, Geoje City.
The paramedics who arrived at the scene checked Mr. A's condition and decided to transport him urgently. They inquired about transfer to 10 hospitals in the Gyeongnam and Busan areas, including Changwon and Jinju, but all refused.
However, I received a response that painkiller injections and tests are possible at B Hospital in Geoje, so I was transferred to that hospital. The transfer was completed at 4:46 a.m.
Earlier, Mr. A visited a nearby emergency room around 9 PM the previous evening due to lower abdominal pain, but since there were no abnormalities found in the CT scan and other tests, he was treated with painkillers and discharged.
However, Mr. A was diagnosed with acute peritonitis at a hospital in Geoje. Immediate surgery was necessary, but the hospital did not have a surgeon available, so he had to be transferred to another hospital where surgery could be performed.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stated, "At 3:28 a.m. on the day, the emergency medical team arrived at the scene and found that the patient's consciousness was clear. The patient complained of lower abdominal pain and vomiting symptoms. After contacting the medical institution visited the previous day, it was determined that urology consultation was necessary, and the hospital was selected accordingly." They further explained, "The case was classified as a severe Pre-KTAS stage 3, and the hospital selection was made in cooperation between the emergency medical team and the emergency situation management center without the intervention of the regional emergency medical situation room."
After that, Mr. A was transferred to B Hospital at 4:46 AM, received emergency room treatment, and was diagnosed with peritonitis, requiring more specialized treatment. He was then transferred to C Hospital around 7:54 AM.
Mr. A, who arrived at Hospital C around 8:53, underwent surgery around 10:30 and was admitted to the intensive care unit, but ultimately died two days later.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare stated, "Details regarding the patient's medical condition changes at the time, medical institution treatment records, the selection of the initial transfer hospital, and the transfer process will be investigated through the relevant local government," and added, "After clarifying the facts, if additional investigation is necessary, we will consider conducting a direct investigation at the ministry level, and if any deficiencies are identified during the response process, we will develop appropriate measures."
