Although Hangul is used by us every day, writing it beautifully is not an easy task. This is because the combination of consonants and vowels varies for each character, making it difficult to maintain the correct size, length, and spacing.

Amidst this, a foreigner who perfectly mastered beautiful handwriting, which even Koreans find difficult, is receiving applause.

The 10th Kyobo Handwriting Contest, recently held under the auspices of the Handwriting Culture Promotion Committee and jointly hosted by Kyobo Book Centre, the Dasan Foundation for Culture, and Kyobo Life Insurance.

A total of 44,993 participants entered this year's competition, marking the highest number of participants ever, nearly three times more than the previous year. After fierce competition, this year also saw the emergence of uniquely talented calligraphy masters.

Among them, the recipient of the top award in the newly established Foreigners' Division for the 10th anniversary drew attention. The Foreigners' Division was conducted by writing by hand sentences from Korean literature that left an impression or favorite K-POP lyrics. A total of 34 countries' foreign residents residing in Korea participated.

As a result, 19-year-old Mohamed Husseifa of Egyptian nationality was selected for the top prize. Mohamed Husseifa wrote by hand the last message that Ahn Jung-geun left during his lifetime, addressed to his compatriots. Mohamed Husseifa's handwriting combined proper use of strokes and hooks, creating an easy-to-read script.

Poet Shin Dal-ja, upon seeing the handwritten script, praised it highly, saying, "It's amazing. It's intricate and even has a rhythm. To express the beauty of Hangul to this extent, one must have a deep understanding of Korea. I feel grateful."

Additionally, singer Kim Jong-jin praised, "The horizontal and vertical strokes that only those who practice a lot can produce, and the handwritten text carefully written by hand, fit very well with the content of the sentence 'A Call to Fellow Koreans,' creating a great resonance."

Mohamed Hoseipa Gun has studied Korean for six years. He expressed, "I am truly honored to have the opportunity to write in my own handwriting the 'Call to Fellow Countrymen' by Ahn Jung-geun, who sacrificed for the independence of our nation against Japanese imperialism," as he began his acceptance speech.

He added, "Just as he desperately wished that his death would not be in vain and would lead to the independence of his homeland, and as he pursued peace in the East, I have written his message in my own handwriting, longing for the freedom and liberation of the Palestinians who have been oppressed and had their land taken away for 76 years."

Mohamed Hoseipa Gun said, "I am pleased and grateful to have been participating in the Kyobo Handwriting Contest for three years and to have found my own unique handwriting," and added, "I hope more foreigners will feel the excellence and beauty of Hangul, and I thank everyone who supports us."
