"All 10 fingernails and toenails fell out" - The disease thought to only affect children is also deadly for adults.

I thought it was something kids usually catch..

It can be so deadly when adults get it.

My toenails and fingernails are falling out...

Just before going on vacation, I experienced unexpected itching and pain on my lips.

When I asked at the vacation pharmacy, they said it looks like a cold sore on the lips.

It may or may not be herpes zoster.

I'm currently applying the prescribed ointment I received.

It probably isn't hand-foot-and-mouth disease, right? Because it's not in the mouth...

During the month of July... I took on all the childcare alone while my husband was on an overseas business trip.

After that, I took care of the second child for a week... I guess I overexerted myself somehow...

It is said that shingles appear when the immune system weakens.

I'm so embarrassed because it's my first time with a cold sore on my lips... Oh dear...

Hand, foot, and mouth disease, which is currently widespread among infants and young children aged 0 to 6, has been found to be potentially fatal for adults as well. A famous influencer couple shared their story of losing their fingernails and toenails after contracting hand, foot, and mouth disease from their child.

Influencer Yoo Hye-joo and Jo Jung-yeon, a married couple, posted a video titled "Dad who caught hand-foot-mouth disease from his son, the most severe adult hand-foot-mouth disease ever" on their YouTube channel 'RejuLike' on the 29th.

In the video, Mr. Jo said, "When I woke up in the morning, I was sweating coldly, had a fever, and a severe headache. When I checked my temperature, it was over 38 degrees Celsius," and "I took medicine and slept, but the fever didn't go down, so I received medical treatment and found out I also had hand-foot-mouth disease."

The symptoms of hand-foot-mouth disease worsened on the third night. Mr. Jo said, "It's the most painful illness I've ever had," and "It's the third night of hand-foot-mouth disease, and last night I couldn't sleep because of the pain. But today, it's even more painful."

He said, "I took medicine and applied ointment, but the pain is too severe, and I have chills all over my legs and body, so I'm wearing thick clothes."

Mr. Cho showed his soles covered with blisters and warned, "Be careful in households with babies."

Ultimately, Mr. Jo's condition worsened and he was taken to the emergency room. However, the hospital couldn't provide any special treatment, and all they did was prescribe a painkiller injection.

Wife Yu said, "The symptoms seem to be quite serious. I heard he was in pain, but I didn't expect him to be this distressed," and added, "Maybe because the son is a baby, he responds well to medication and recovers quickly, but (my husband) seems to have a weakened immune system, and he's worried about many things, so he can't sleep."

After the video was released, Mr. Jo said, "(Currently) five of my toenails have already fallen out, and five fingernails are about to fall off and are loose," and he urged, "Thank you for the support. Everyone should be careful of hand-foot-mouth disease."

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a contagious illness characterized by blisters and ulcers in the mouth, as well as vesicular rashes on the hands and feet. It is primarily caused by Coxsackie virus and Enterovirus 71, with no available vaccine. It tends to spread mainly among infants and young children who have weaker personal hygiene and are frequently in group settings.

Adults can also become infected through contact with feces on their hands or through touching contaminated objects touched by patients, which can then be transmitted via the hands and mouth, so special caution is necessary.

To prevent hand-foot-and-mouth disease, it is most important to maintain thorough personal hygiene, such as proper handwashing, and to be careful to prevent transmission to others if infected.
