Dehumidification capacity is lower than what is advertised or claimed by the companies... Carrier and LG products are relatively superior. During the rainy season, dehumidifiers are used frequently, but it was found that their actual dehumidification capacity is less than what the manufacturers have indicated or advertised. Calls for improvements have been made.

Dehumidifiers are home appliances that quickly remove moisture from indoor spaces, especially in high demand during the summer monsoon season.

The Korea Consumer Agency (Director Yoon Soo-hyun) conducted testing and evaluation of nine dehumidifier products currently on the market to assist consumers in product selection. The evaluation covered quality (dehumidification performance, noise), cost-effectiveness (energy consumption, dehumidification efficiency), and safety (electric stability, dehumidified water handling, electric shock protection).

The test evaluation results showed differences among products in key performance areas such as dehumidification performance, dehumidification efficiency, noise, as well as additional features and price. Some products had discrepancies between the dehumidification amount indicated on labels and advertisements and the actual measured values, requiring consumer caution. All products met the relevant safety standards and labeling requirements.

When comparing dehumidification performance, two products were relatively superior, and there were differences between the products.

The dehumidification performance (daily dehumidification capacity (ℓ)), which indicates the amount of moisture that can be dehumidified over 24 hours, ranged from a minimum of 12.2 liters to a maximum of 21.1 liters, with up to a 1.7-fold difference between products.

Two products, Carrier (CDHM-C020LUOW) and LG Electronics (DQ203PECA), were relatively superior with over 20 liters, while the Thinkair (Thinkair DL30F) product had the lowest at 12.2 liters.

Two products, Voar (VO-DE002) and Thinkair (Thinkair DL30F), had actual measurements that matched the daily dehumidification capacity indicated on the energy efficiency rating label, but they advertised and displayed that they could dehumidify at higher capacities, which required improvement.

The Winia (EDH19GDWA(A)) product was advertised and labeled with the same dehumidification capacity as the energy efficiency certification. The actual measurement was around 92%, which met the standard, but it was relatively low.

The Winix (DXJE193-LMK) product, when operated in the commonly used automatic mode, showed a dehumidification actual value of 12.0 liters, which was less than the dehumidification capacity of 19.0 liters indicated on the product. To achieve the dehumidification performance at the indicated level, manual mode operation was necessary.

When converted to the applied area for dehumidification performance, it is approximately 16 to 28 pyeong, with differences depending on the product. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the area of the space mainly used when purchasing or selecting a product to choose the appropriate one.
