A study has shown that taking a multivitamin supplement does not help improve health or extend lifespan.
According to the latest research findings from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), researchers have recently stated that they do not support taking multivitamins to extend lifespan.
For this study, Dr. Erica Loftfield and colleagues at NCI analyzed data from approximately 400,000 U.S. adults accumulated over 20 years. The median age of the participants (the age of the person in the middle when all participants are listed in order of age, different from the average age) was 61.5 years, and they consisted mainly of healthy individuals without a history of chronic diseases.
As a result, no evidence was found to suggest that taking a daily multivitamin can reduce the risk of death from other diseases such as heart disease or cancer.
