Kim Joo-yeon asked Yoo-jeong, "Why did idols become so thin?" and Yoo-jeong, recalling her idol days, said, "Back then, I think I lost weight in an unhealthy way. Now that I think about it, even though I weighed less than the standard weight, I felt stressed because I looked too chubby on screen."
He also said, "I once lost 2 kg in a week. I think I lost it too quickly, so it might not be a healthy way." He explained, "I did aerobic exercise. Even if I really don't want to do it, after about 15 minutes, I get motivated and end up doing it for about 30 minutes. Doing that, I feel like I shouldn't eat certain things."
Lee Yoo-jung said, "I don't lie down after eating. If I lie down after eating, I feel uncomfortable, and it's been a habit since I was young. I think I sit for about two hours after eating," sharing her diet secret.
Lying down immediately after eating can cause acid reflux and may lead to weight gain.
The habit of not lying down immediately after meals, like Yoojung's, helps prevent obesity and gastrointestinal diseases. People who have the habit of lying down after meals are more likely to be overweight compared to those who do not, because when you lie down quietly after eating, the calories consumed remain in the body and are stored as fat.
Lying down immediately after a meal can cause the food in the stomach to reflux, leading to reflux esophagitis. Between the esophagus and the stomach, there is the lower esophageal sphincter that prevents stomach acid from refluxing into the esophagus. However, lying down right after eating lowers the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter, impairing its function.
Because of this, if food and stomach acid reflux into the esophagus, it can cause reflux esophagitis, which is inflammation of the esophagus. If you often experience a sour taste and a burning chest pain, you should check whether you have a habit of lying down immediately after eating.
Combining aerobic exercise and strength training helps you lose weight more effectively.
Aerobic exercise, which Yujeong did to lose weight, is essential because it burns more calories than strength training when the effort is similar. While aerobic exercise also helps burn fat, it positively impacts heart health, blood pressure management, and mood.
However, in the long term, combining aerobic exercise and strength training appropriately is more effective for healthy weight loss. Increasing muscle mass through strength training raises the basal metabolic rate, making the body less prone to gaining weight easily. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that adults engage in at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or at least 75 minutes of high-intensity aerobic exercise per week, along with strength training on two or more days.
Exercise for weight loss can be more effective when combined with a diet plan. The diet should be maintained to consume fewer calories than burned and should include a balanced intake of nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Recklessly starving oneself can lower the basal metabolic rate and may lead to a rebound effect, so it must be avoided.
