7 Tips to Know When Moving House

Whether the house you lived in has been repaired

When moving, you may need to repair the house you are living in for various reasons before leaving. The costs are divided between the tenant and the landlord depending on the situation. If the tenant has done interior work during their stay and needs to restore the house to its original condition, the tenant must bear the cost. Similarly, if holes are drilled into the wall for installing a wall-mounted TV or connecting cables, the tenant is responsible for the expenses. On the other hand, natural discoloration of wallpaper or flooring over time, or small holes made in the wall for clocks or simple decorations, are the landlord's responsibility.

Certificate of registration copy verification

Even if you have already checked the copy of the registration certificate when signing a real estate contract, you should review it carefully again when moving. This is because new loans or mortgages that the contractee is unaware of may have been registered in the meantime. Do not become complacent just because you have already checked during the stay; be sure to review the registration certificate again, including any cancellation notices.

Waste disposal

When moving, inevitably, trash will accumulate as you pack and organize all your belongings. It turns out to be more than expected... Therefore, it is polite to dispose of the trash generated from the house you're leaving. Before packing your belongings, prepare a few trash bags, and after finishing the packing and organizing, you should dispose of any additional trash that has accumulated.

City gas application and settlement

2-3 days before moving, you should apply for city gas connection at the new house, and on the moving day, settle the city gas bill for the house you are leaving. The method is simple. Contact the customer service center in the area where the new house is located to request a city gas connection appointment. At this time, you only need to cover the material costs excluding labor costs. If the city gas materials such as hoses and connectors are already prepared, they are free of charge; if not, you only need to pay a fee of about 10,000 won.

Moving-in cleaning for the new house

You must also check whether the house being moved into has been properly cleaned. First, verify that the previous tenant or landlord has removed their belongings and cleaned the place thoroughly. If there are many areas that need cleaning or repairs, it can be difficult to move in immediately. Typically, a first round of cleaning is done before moving in, followed by a second cleaning after all belongings are moved in. If cleaning feels overwhelming, hiring a professional cleaning service is also a good option.

Additional fee for moving service center

Even if you have already paid the moving company for the reserved move, there are often cases where the movers request a tip after the move is completed. If you voluntarily give it out of gratitude, that's a good thing, but if not, it can be quite awkward. To prevent such issues from occurring, it is advisable to clearly confirm with the company representative during the reservation process to ensure that these problems do not arise later.

Keep valuables separately.

Even if you hire a moving company for packing when you move, you should keep valuables with you personally. This is because there are quite a few cases where valuables are lost or stolen during a move. Once they are lost on the moving day, it is impossible to find them afterward. High-value electronic devices, precious metals, wedding jewelry, bankbooks, and cash should always be kept in a bag you carry or in your own car to prevent the risk of loss.
