Former Goo Ha-ra, was a helper in the 'Burning Sun' investigation... Unravel the clue of police collusion

It has been revealed that the late Kara member Goo Hara (1991–2019) played a key role in covering the Burning Sun incident.

BBC News Korea released a documentary titled "Burning Sun: The Stories of Women Who Exposed Secret Chat Rooms of K-Pop Stars" on the 19th.

This video contains stories about Seungri, a former member of the group Big Bang and the starting point of the Burning Sun Gate, as well as singer Jung Joon-young, who participated in illegal filming and distribution in the so-called 'Jung Joon-young group chat room,' and Choi Jong-hoon from the band FT Island.

Reporter Kang Kyung-yoon, who covered the Burning Sun Gate at the time, revealed in an interview that he confirmed the existence of high-ranking police officials in a group chat room that included Seungri, Jung Joon-young, and Choi Jong-hoon. "The conversation logs revealed two major issues: sexual crimes and police collusion. Who is this police officer in the group chat? That was extremely important and the most unresolved issue," he said.

Goo Hara appeared and opened the door for that, and she said she was contacted first by Goo Hara. "Ms. Goo Hara said she wanted to help. She has been very close with Choi Jun-ho since their debut, and she also knows Seungri and Jung Joon-young to some extent. Because she has a close relationship with them, she has seen their phones when they use them, and she said, 'There are really strange things on their phones. What the reporter mentioned is true.'"

Reporter Kang said, "Actually, I want to know about the existence of the police, but I have no way to find out. When I asked Mr. Hara if he could help with this, he called Choi Jong-hoon and asked on my behalf."

According to Gu Ho-in, the older brother of Gu Ha-ra, Gu Ha-ra personally called Choi Jong-hoon and persuaded him to reveal what he knew to the reporters. Thanks to this, Reporter Kang was able to contact Choi Jong-hoon and learn that the person referred to as the 'Chief of Police' in the group chat was Deputy Chief Yoon Kyu-geun.

Reporter Kang said, "Ms. Guhara was a very courageous woman. She said, 'I'm also a victim of revenge porn.'" He also talked about Guhoin's threat with private videos illegally filmed by her ex-boyfriend. "'I'll ruin your entertainment career,' he threatened. (Guhara) had dreamed of becoming an entertainer, but she was afraid of losing her job and being exposed to the public, so I understand she begged him not to do it and knelt down."

Gooha reported her ex-boyfriend to the police, and he was ultimately convicted of assault and threats. However, afterward, Gooha showed symptoms of depression and passed away in 2019.

Seung-ri was convicted by the Supreme Court in May 2022 on nine charges, including habitual gambling, prostitution, and facilitation of prostitution. He was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, served his sentence, and was released in February of last year.

Jung Joon-young was accused of meeting women in Hongcheon, Gangwon in January 2016 and in Daegu in March of the same year, getting them intoxicated and committing group sexual assault. He was also charged with distributing illegal recordings from a group chat room. In September 2020, the Supreme Court confirmed his five-year prison sentence, and he was released on parole last March.

Choi Jong-hoon was released on parole in November 2021 after serving two years and six months in prison.
