Freedom or nuisance? The heated debate over sidewalk smoking and blocking the path
Public opinion demanding the prohibition of street smoking, such as smoking while walking, is at an all-time high.
There is also a Blue House petition requesting a ban on this.
The policy of prohibiting smoking while walking has received overwhelming support, with 88.2% approval from citizens, public officials, and experts through voting.
The rise in public opinion is due to frequent incidents of direct injuries caused by so-called 'smoking on the street' and conflicts between smokers and non-smokers. Some are even arguing that smoking while walking should be treated as a social issue.
If you smoke on the street while traveling abroad in places like Hong Kong, Singapore, or Spain, you could face a hefty fine.
In central Tokyo, Japan, if you are caught smoking on designated non-smoking streets, you will be fined up to 220,000 won.
However, Japan is ensuring the rights of smokers in advance, such as expanding smoking areas, to reduce conflicts beforehand.
A smoker argued, "Do you know how much tax the government collects from selling cigarettes?" and claimed, "With this enormous revenue, we should work to expand smoking areas."
If smokers have no choice but to smoke, they are requesting to be allowed to smoke in designated areas.
==================
Why do people smoking cigarettes while walking look so barbaric?
Do the people behind not realize that smoke is reaching them?
They really seem like selfish and mean people... spitting anywhere... I truly feel disgusted.
