Samyang Foods announced on the 15th that its consolidated operating profit for the first to third quarters of this year was 134 billion won. This is a 67% increase compared to the same period last year. This is the first time the company's quarterly operating profit has exceeded 100 billion won. During the same period, sales reached 529 billion won, a 37% increase from the previous year, setting a new quarterly record.
The most notable aspect of this performance is the proportion of overseas sales. 424 billion won, accounting for 80% of total sales, was generated from international markets. Since surpassing 300 billion won in the third quarter of last year, the company has exceeded 400 billion won again in just three quarters. As sales have increased steadily across major regions such as the United States, China, and Europe, the dependence on overseas markets has become more pronounced.
Local consumer reactions are also very enthusiastic. On social media, people say, "I didn't know Korean ramen could be this spicy. After one bite, I was looking for ice water," but also add, "It's a flavor that keeps coming to mind after just one taste, so I buy it regularly," "Korea is a paradise of spicy flavors," and "If I can survive eating this, I can go on a trip to Korea."
The Chinese market is also sailing smoothly. The first-quarter sales of the local subsidiary reached 610 million yuan, approximately 118.2 billion won, a 22% increase compared to the previous year. Samyang Foods is building its first overseas production facility in China with the goal of completion by 2027. The strategy is to penetrate local distribution channels and improve logistics efficiency.
It is also expanding its presence in Europe. The first-quarter sales of the European subsidiary established in July last year amounted to 16 million euros, approximately 25 billion Korean won. In particular, products have started to be displayed not only in Asian markets in major countries such as Germany, France, and the United Kingdom but also in some supermarkets.
In the industry, Samyang Foods is seen as solidifying its position as a global brand. An industry insider said, "Product quality has been recognized overseas first, and now brand awareness itself is becoming a strength," adding, "Samyang is demonstrating the process of domestic ramen companies transforming into leading K-food brands in the global market."
A representative from Samyang Foods stated, "Thanks to the expansion of overseas sales and improvements in the exchange rate environment, the operating profit margin has reached 25%," and added, "Once the Miryang Plant No. 2, scheduled to be completed in June, becomes operational, production capacity will be further strengthened."
