First case of 'SKT SIM card damage' appears... Damage amount exceeds expectations
The first estimated case of damage has emerged amid concerns of secondary harm due to the SKT SIM card information leak incident.
According to the Busan Nambu Police Station on the 28th, a man in his 60s, Mr. A, who is using SKT telecommunications, had his mobile phone suddenly disconnected, and a budget phone was activated, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
Mr. A visited the dealership on the 22nd because his mobile phone, which he had been using, suddenly stopped working.
As a result of the check, Mr. A's SKT mobile phone has been canceled, and a KT budget phone has been newly activated.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that on that day, a total of 50 million won was transferred from Mr. A's account in five installments of 10 million won each to an unknown person.
It is known that Mr. A reported this fact to the police and requested a payment suspension from the bank of the account in question.
The police official stated, "Since it is still in the early stages of the investigation, it has not yet been confirmed whether it is related to the recent SKT hacking incident."
Previously, SK Telecom announced on the 19th that it was targeted by a hacking attack on its USIM server caused by malicious code.
Evidence has emerged that the SIM card information of the country's largest telecommunications company, which holds the number one market share, has been leaked. As a result, 25 million subscribers are worried about secondary damages such as illegal cloning and are feeling anxious.
On the 25th, SKT executives bowed their heads through a public apology and announced that they would replace all customers' SIM cards free of charge.
