Cup ramen, 'environmental hormones' exposed on receipts... To what extent is it harmful to the human body?
Results of a domestic exposure survey on bisphenol, widely used in everyday products, indicating potential risks to human health
It was found to be low.
On the 24th, the Korea Food & Drug Safety Agency, part of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, announced that receipts, cup noodle containers, and other items are used in...
The integrated risk assessment results for the three types of bisphenol indicate that the level of concern for human health is low.
The bisphenols subjected to the integrated risk assessment this time are three types: bisphenol A, bisphenol S, and bisphenol F.
Bisphenol A·S·F has excellent heat resistance and strength, making it suitable for plastic containers, epoxy resins, and pipe coatings.
It is widely used in everyday products and classified as an endocrine-disrupting environmental hormone with potential risks.
Their use is strictly restricted in children's products and cosmetics.
As a result of this integrated risk assessment, the total exposure to bisphenol A for our citizens in 2024 is based on adult standards.
It was found to be 0.005 μg (micrograms, 1 μg is one millionth of a gram) per kilogram of body weight per day, and 0.015 μg for infants.
The total exposure amount for adults is converted to a 'hazard index' of 0.02%. A hazard index below 1 indicates 'no concern for human health.'
The total internal exposure to bisphenol calculated is the result of collecting and analyzing information on exposure routes and sources, bisphenol contamination levels in products, and usage frequency of each product.
Bisphenol S and F, after calculating the exposure safety threshold by dividing the toxicity initiation value of each substance by the total exposure amount and comparing it with their respective uncertainty factors, were also found to pose a low level of concern for human health.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety explained, "This is a level considered to pose no potential harm even with lifelong exposure, and the amount is very unlikely to cause harm to the human body."
He also stated, "We will continue to conduct risk assessments reflecting changes in internal exposure levels to harmful substances that may be exposed to the public in their daily lives, and do our best to create a healthy and safe living environment."

There was a big fuss about carcinogens being found in receipt paper too.
The test results are safe even if exposed for a lifetime...
