Gwangmyeong Sinansan Line accident additional collapse concern leads to second evacuation order

A second evacuation order has been issued due to concerns of additional collapse related to the Shinansan Line double-track railway construction accident in Iljik-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi Province.

According to Gwangmyeong City and others on the 14th, the city issued an evacuation order around 11 a.m. the previous day to 38 residents in 12 households living within 50 meters of the accident site in the Guseommal area. It is reported that residents evacuated to nearby lodging establishments and relatives' residences.

On the afternoon of the 11th at 3:13 PM, the site that collapsed had ongoing ground subsidence and cracks starting from the day after the accident due to continuous rain, raising concerns about further collapse.

It appears that the city has decided to evacuate after holding a meeting with related organizations such as the Korea Railroad Corporation.

On the 11th at 3:13 PM, a collapse accident occurred inside the pillar in the middle of the underground tunnel of Section 5-2 of the Shinansan Line double-track railway, constructed by POSCO E&C.

Of the 19 workers present at the scene at the time of the accident, 17 safely evacuated, and 1 was rescued after 13 hours.

Posco E&C employee A (in his 50s) has not yet been located, and firefighting authorities are continuing search efforts.
