20s spectator with head injury in Changwon NC Park structure fall accident finally passes away

A spectator who was injured in the head while receiving treatment after a structure collapse at Changwon NC Park in Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon City, Gyeongnam, has finally passed away.

According to Masan Eastern Police Station on the 31st, around 5:17 PM on the 29th, when a professional baseball game was taking place, a spectator in his 20s, Mr. A, was hit in the head and suffered serious injuries after being struck by a structure falling from above near the third-base concession stand at Changwon NC Park in Masan Hoe-dong District.

 

Mr. A, who was transferred to the hospital and received treatment in the intensive care unit, ultimately passed away at 11:15 a.m. on this day, just two days later.

 

According to the police and others, the fallen structure is approximately 2.6 meters long, 40 centimeters wide, and weighs about 60 kilograms.

The structure is known to be made of aluminum exterior finishing material called 'louver'.

Originally, the structure was installed approximately 17.5 meters above the window exterior wall of the snack bar's team office.

It was usually in a fixed position, but on the day of the accident, for unknown reasons, it fell, hit the ceiling of the snack bar once, and then fell about 3 to 4 meters below.

Three people, including Mr. A and his teenage younger brother Mr. B, were injured in this accident.

Person B has a fractured clavicle and is receiving treatment at the hospital, while the other person is reported to have a bruise on their leg.

The police plan to conduct on-site investigations with the National Institute of Scientific Investigation and others, while also investigating the exact details of the accident.

A police official said, "An investigation is expected to be conducted regarding professional negligence resulting in death against on-site personnel and others."

Previously, NC Dinos, the professional baseball team that uses Changwon NC Park as their home stadium, stated, "We sincerely wish for the quick recovery of those who were unfortunately injured, and we are doing our best to take necessary actions within our capacity," adding, "We will thoroughly investigate the exact cause of the accident with relevant authorities and establish measures to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future, and we will implement them diligently."
