North Korea claimed to be developing a nuclear submarine powered by nuclear energy.
North Korea's Korean Central News Agency reported on the 8th that "Chairman Kim Jong Un provided on-site guidance for the shipbuilding projects at important North Korean shipyards," and "He also assessed the status of the nuclear-powered strategic guided missile submarine construction, which is being promoted in accordance with the decisions of the 8th Party Congress."
In addition, the communication agency released a photo of Chairman Kim inspecting the construction site and progress of the nuclear submarine. In the photo, Chairman Kim is smiling brightly in front of what appears to be a nuclear submarine under construction.
The nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine currently under construction is estimated to have a displacement of around 5,000 tons.
