Actress Shin Ae-ra (55) revealed her secret to good health.

Recently, a video titled “The tomato soup and breakfast ingredients my husband and I eat every morning; let’s eat together and stay healthy together, subscribers” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Shin-ae Life.’ In the video, Shin Ae-ra mentioned that she and her husband eat vegetable soup every morning. She explained, “All you need is tomatoes, carrots, onions, and garlic.”

 

Shin Ae-ra said, “As I get older, I’ve become very interested in my health,” adding, “I can feel my stamina declining, so I thought I should pay more attention to my health.” She continued, “I used to like meat and carbohydrates, but these days I try to eat a lot of vegetables,” and added, “I try to make sure to eat protein with every meal, and I also make sure to eat a lot of oatmeal for breakfast.”

Low-calorie vegetable soup rich in antioxidants

 

The vegetable soup that Shin Ae-ra reportedly eats is low in calories, which not only helps with weight control but also offers benefits such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Because it contains various vegetables rich in dietary fiber, it provides a long-lasting feeling of fullness. It is also good for improving gut health.

Looking at them individually, tomatoes are rich in lycopene, known as a powerful antioxidant. Lycopene prevents oxidation by inhibiting free radicals, the main culprits behind cellular aging. As a result, it has effects such as lowering inflammation levels in the body, preventing cancer, and boosting immunity.

 

In fact, it was even selected as the number one of the top 10 anti-cancer foods by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. Heating these tomatoes maximizes their health benefits. Since tomatoes are rich in fat-soluble components, heating them in oil further increases the absorption rate of nutrients.

Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant, which helps boost immunity and protect eyesight. Like tomatoes, it is better to eat cooked carrots. While the body's absorption rate of beta-carotene is about 10% when eaten raw, it rises to 20–30% when boiled and over 60% when stir-fried in oil. Carrots are rich in dietary fiber and contain relatively little sugar (4.7g), so they can be consumed without worrying about blood sugar levels.

Onions are rich in a compound called quercetin, which is beneficial for vascular health. Quercetin is a flavonoid plant pigment that is effective in preventing damage to blood vessel walls. It lowers levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and raises levels of good cholesterol (HDL). According to a study by U.S. A&M University, people who consumed more than half an onion daily saw a 30% increase in HDL cholesterol. In addition, onions help expel harmful substances from the body and build resistance against bacteria and viruses.

 

Garlic is rich in various antioxidants, which can reduce inflammation in the body and boost immunity. Allicin in garlic has excellent anticancer and antibacterial properties, protecting the body from harmful external substances. You can consume more allicin by mincing or crushing the garlic during cooking. Garlic also has a high selenium content. Selenium eliminates free radicals, providing benefits such as detoxification, immune enhancement, and anti-aging effects.
