Eggs were a food that some health-conscious people avoided. It was because of the cholesterol contained in eggs. However, there are research findings that dispel these concerns about eggs.

 

According to a paper presented by a Chinese research team at the British Cardiology Society, people who eat one egg a day have a lower risk of heart disease or stroke compared to those who do not eat eggs at all. This study, involving Beijing University, Oxford University, and other institutions, tracked cardiovascular diseases over nine years among 500,000 Chinese individuals.

People who answered that they eat eggs every day had an 11% lower risk of developing heart disease and an 18% lower probability of dying from related illnesses compared to those who do not eat eggs at all. The impact of eggs on stroke was even more pronounced. The risk of hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) and ischemic stroke (cerebral infarction) was reduced by 26% and 10%, respectively.

This study (Associations of egg consumption with cardiovascular disease in a cohort study of 0.5 million Chinese adults) was published in the international journal ≪British Medical Journal Heart (BMJ Journals Heart)≫.

We have summarized the tips for eating eggs well, as introduced by the BBC in the UK.

 

"One a day is no problem" = Until 2007, the UK Health Foundation recommended eating no more than three eggs a week due to concerns about cholesterol. However, recent studies have revealed that egg cholesterol does not raise blood cholesterol levels.

High-density lipoprotein (HDL) in eggs helps remove blood lipids from the body, which actually benefits vascular health. Experts say, "Eating one or two eggs a day is no problem."

 

"Boil and eat" = The best cooking method recommended by nutritionists is boiling. Frying in oil is not desirable.

Meanwhile, ice cream and mayonnaise contain raw or lightly cooked eggs. When choosing such products, it is advisable to select those that have received government safety certification.

 

"Keep refrigerated" = Do not buy broken or cracked eggs, and store purchased eggs in the refrigerator. It is best to consume eggs within 28 days of laying. Eggs sink when placed in cold water if they are fresh, but if they float to the surface, they are spoiled.
