To enjoy a 'death at the end of the life' among the Five Blessings… Be sure to follow 'this' during meals

The story of Professor Seo Yong-jun, Department of Breast and Endocrine Surgery, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital

Among the Five Blessings that people desire, there is one called "Kojongmyeong." It refers to the great blessing of finishing one's life naturally, without illness. To enjoy Kojongmyeong, we must carefully examine the food we consume on a daily basis. If you are aware of the foods that increase the risk of cancer, you will be able to avoid cancer and enjoy the Five Blessings.

Avoid refined carbohydrates.

You should be careful about excessive intake of refined carbohydrates. Bread, pastries, juice, and sugar are typical examples. Excessive sugar intake causes blood sugar levels to rise, which disrupts the body's hormonal balance and weakens the immune system. Refined carbohydrates have a high glycemic index, leading to obesity. Excess energy is stored as body fat, and obesity increases the risk of developing diseases including metabolic syndrome, as well as cancers such as breast, colon, and pancreatic cancer.

Caution is also required regarding artificial sweeteners, which are widely used these days. As research on artificial sweeteners is insufficient, they are one of the foods that cancer patients, who must pay close attention to their dietary habits, should consume with caution. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in France have released research results indicating that consuming carbonated beverages containing artificial sweeteners daily increases the risk of premature death compared to those who do not.

Please boil or steam the meat.

It is important for cancer patients to consume protein to prevent muscle loss and fight the disease. Studies have shown that cancer patients should ensure at least 65% of their daily protein intake consists of animal protein. However, you must be mindful of the "smoky flavor" of meat. Meat cooked at high temperatures generates carcinogens such as heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These substances can cause stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, and other diseases.

To prevent the formation of carcinogens when grilling meat, it is best to cook the surface over low heat afterward. Grilling in a frying pan is recommended over direct grilling. Additionally, since these substances can remain even after removing burnt parts, it is advisable to use a clean grill pan and cook over low heat. The best method is to boil or steam the meat before eating.

It is also advisable to refrain from excessive consumption of processed meat. Sausages, bacon, and ham are meats that have undergone processes such as curing or fermentation, and they contain N-nitroso compounds.

Due to the high level of evidence, N-nitroso compounds are classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as Group 1 carcinogens, similar to tobacco, alcohol, and ultraviolet radiation. They damage DNA and induce oxidative stress, increasing the risk of cancer. Instead of processed meat, lean cuts such as tenderloin, sirloin, and leg meat are recommended. It is best to consume only one serving (150–200g) at a time, no more than once or twice a week. Substituting beef or pork with chicken, duck, or fish is also acceptable.

============

I had boiled pork over the weekend,

I just steam it in a steamer without water.

It seems chewier.

The meat tastes good even when grilled,

It's good to boil or steam for your health.
