Carbohydrates are nutrients that provide energy to our bodies, but they are directly related to blood sugar levels and weight gain, so they should be consumed in moderation. Experts say that for health, not only the amount of carbohydrate intake but also the timing of consumption should be controlled. When is the best time to consume carbohydrates?
 

It is advisable to consume carbohydrates in the morning for health.

 

According to a study published in the American health magazine 'Health', consuming carbohydrates in the morning helps the body appropriately distribute the energy needed to get through the day and regulate blood sugar levels. Since brain glucose levels gradually decrease while we sleep, it is beneficial to consume carbohydrates in the morning to maintain optimal brain function. This is because the brain consumes glucose, its primary energy source, to activate nerve cells.

 

Consuming carbohydrates in the morning is more beneficial for weight management than consuming them in the evening.

 

Consuming carbohydrates in the morning helps suppress hunger, preventing overeating or binge eating during subsequent meals. Eating carbohydrates in the morning has a weight management effect by preventing overeating or binge eating later. Consuming carbohydrates in the evening increases the risk of weight gain.

Because of relatively lower activity levels in the evening, the carbohydrates consumed are not fully metabolized, increasing the likelihood that they will be stored as fat in the body.

 

It is advisable to primarily consume complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates are composed of three or more sugar molecules linked together, resulting in a larger molecular weight than simple sugars, which are absorbed more slowly in the body and raise blood sugar levels gradually. According to research from the German Institute of Human Nutrition, consuming complex carbohydrates such as oatmeal and quinoa in the morning improved memory compared to not doing so.

 

 

However, it is forbidden to consume only carbohydrates. For breakfast, you should eat a balanced meal that includes complex carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to positively influence metabolism. This can include whole grain cereal or toast served with leafy greens like spinach or kale, along with eggs or avocado.
