Cholesterol that makes blood sticky, prevention by eating this savory item
If LDL cholesterol levels in our body are high, they become the main cause of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. According to researchers from the Department of Cardiology at Seoul National University Hospital, individuals in the top 25% of total cholesterol levels had about a 25% higher risk of myocardial infarction compared to those in the bottom 25%. People with high LDL cholesterol levels had approximately a 41% higher incidence of myocardial infarction. Here are three foods that help reduce cholesterol levels.
◇깨
The sesame seeds contain sesaminol and sesamin, which help keep the blood clean. In particular, consuming a high-fat meal causes cholesterol to accumulate in the blood, narrowing the blood vessels, but sesaminol helps remove cholesterol and protect the blood vessels. Sesamin prevents the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine and promotes its excretion, thereby lowering blood cholesterol levels. However, since sesame seeds are high in calories, it is recommended to consume only about 10 grams, or a large spoonful, per day.
Seaweed soup
Seaweed contains many components that purify the blood, such as fucoidan and alginate. Fucoidan is a dietary fiber found in seaweed that helps prevent blood clots and purify the blood. The soluble fiber in seaweed, alginate, aids in the elimination of bad cholesterol and triglycerides. Therefore, it helps prevent hyperlipidemia (a condition caused by excess lipids or fats in the blood) and arteriosclerosis (a condition where arteries become thickened and hardened). However, fresh seaweed has a high sodium content, so it is advisable to soak it thoroughly in water before cooking to remove the salty taste.
Black soybeans
The rich protein and fatty acids inside black beans are effective in inhibiting cholesterol production. Therefore, they also help reduce the risk of heart disease. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), black beans are nutritionally dense and are also called "superfoods." Additionally, the lecithin contained in soybeans helps regulate cholesterol levels and excretes fat components absorbed in blood vessels. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommends consuming about 1 to 3 cups of black beans per week.
