[Financial News] A study found that eating just two slices of ham daily increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 15%. Experts advise eating vegetables, fruits, nuts, and beans, and engaging in regular physical activity, to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Eating just two slices of ham increases the risk of diabetes... Red meat also has negative effects.

According to the British daily Guardian on the 20th (local time), this was revealed as a result of a meta-analysis of existing studies conducted by the University of Cambridge on 1.97 million adults worldwide.

The research team concluded that habitual daily consumption of 50g of processed meat, equivalent to two slices of ham, was associated with a 15% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the next 10 years.

Additionally, consuming 100 grams of unprocessed red meat daily—equivalent to a small steak—was associated with a 10% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the same period. Habitually eating 100 grams of poultry daily increased the risk of developing the disease by 8%.

In a paper published in the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, the research team explained, "In order to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, dietary management, such as limiting ham intake, is essential."

More than 400 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and it is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and lower extremity amputation.

“This study shows how eating processed and unprocessed red meat is linked to type 2 diabetes,” said Professor Nita Forouhi of the University of Cambridge, the study’s lead author. “These findings support recommendations to limit consumption of processed and unprocessed red meat to reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes.”

Regarding this study, The Guardian added, "It is already known that eating processed meat or red meat increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but it turns out that ham is the food that is particularly at risk."

=======================

Diabetes is such a dangerous and scary disease.

Just reduce the amount of processed meat you eat

They say it helps

We almost always give our holiday gift ham to my younger sibling's house lol

It's not that I don't eat it for my health,

I don't like it very much~ I'll send half to my younger sibling's house and my mom's house too.
