[Financial News] A study has found that eating just two slices of ham daily increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 15%. Experts advised that to reduce the risk of diabetes, it is beneficial to consume vegetables, fruits, nuts, and beans, and to engage in regular physical activity.
According to The Guardian, a British daily newspaper, on the 20th (local time), a meta-analysis of existing studies involving 1.97 million adults worldwide, led by the University of Cambridge, revealed these findings.
The research team found that habitual daily consumption of 50 grams of processed meat, equivalent to two slices of ham, is associated with a 15% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes over the next 10 years.
Additionally, consuming 100 grams of unprocessed red meat, equivalent to a small steak portion, daily increased the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 10% over the same period. Furthermore, habitually consuming 100 grams of poultry per day increased the risk of disease occurrence by 8%.
The research team explained in a paper published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology that "diet management, such as limiting ham intake, is essential to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes."
Over 400 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and limb amputations.
Professor Nita Foruhi of the University of Cambridge, the lead author of this study, stated, "This research demonstrates how processed meats and unprocessed red meats are associated with type 2 diabetes," and "The findings support recommendations to limit the consumption of processed meats and unprocessed red meats to reduce cases of type 2 diabetes."
The Guardian added, "It is already known that consuming processed meats or red meat increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, but it has been revealed that ham is particularly the most dangerous food."

Diabetes is a very dangerous and frightening disease.
Just reducing processed meat consumption
They say it is helpful.
We mostly give the holiday gift ham to my younger sibling's family lol
It's not that I don't eat for health.
I don't really like it that much, so I'm sending half to my younger sibling's family and half to my mom's family.
