Helps fight inflammation… 7 foods good for relieving asthma

Asthma is a disease of the bronchi. It is a condition in which the bronchi become severely narrowed due to inflammation upon exposure to specific triggers, resulting in recurrent coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and chest tightness.

When you have asthma, eating a healthy and balanced diet helps reduce or control asthma symptoms. According to research, a diet high in refined grains, red meat, processed foods, and sugar can increase inflammation and worsen symptoms.

On the other hand, consuming plenty of unsaturated fats, fruits, and vegetables can alleviate symptoms. This aligns with the Mediterranean diet, which centers on olive oil, fish, whole grains, and fruits.

Certain foods can worsen symptoms. Eating spicy food can cause reflux symptoms similar to asthma.

Leafy vegetables like spinach contain folic acid along with vitamins and minerals. Folic acid is beneficial for people with asthma. Studies have shown that children who do not consume enough folic acid and vitamin D are about eight times more likely to experience at least one severe asthma attack compared to children who consume both nutrients in balanced amounts.

Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants can reduce inflammation in the airways. Pomegranates provide antioxidants that help reduce inflammation in the lungs.

 

Apples, citrus fruits =

If you want to alleviate asthma, it is beneficial to add more fruit to your existing diet. Fruit is a good source of beta-carotene and vitamins C and E, which can reduce inflammation and swelling in the lungs.

According to research, citrus fruits such as apples, oranges, and tangerines have been shown to reduce the risk and symptoms of asthma. Another study found that eating two servings of fruit (plus five servings of vegetables) a day for two weeks was effective in controlling asthma.
