Misutgaru is easy to eat and contains healthy grains such as brown rice and beans. Therefore, it is widely consumed as a diet food or meal replacement. However, caution is required, as even misutgaru, which seems entirely healthy, can actually harm your health if consumed incorrectly.

 

◇ Nutrient loss during heat treatment… A proper meal is better

 

If you are concerned about your health, it is better to eat a proper meal rather than replacing it with misutgaru. Misutgaru is made by cooking grains using hot-air or heat-drying methods and then grinding them into a powder. It is made by mixing about 10 types of grains, including brown rice, soybeans, barley, glutinous rice, and black beans. However, the nutrients of the grains are not fully preserved in misutgaru.

 

This is because nutrients such as vitamins can be destroyed by heat during the cooking process of grains when making misugaru. To stay healthy, meals should be composed of foods that are close to their raw ingredients. It is best to consume a meal that contains a balanced mix of various nutrients, including carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals.


◇ Slurping it down causes a rapid rise in blood sugar… leading to obesity and diabetes

 

Misugaru is a food processed into powder through a refining process that can be conveniently consumed by simply slurping it down. However, eating quickly leads to obesity and diabetes. Rapid nutrient absorption causes blood sugar levels to rise sharply. When blood sugar drops rapidly due to the stimulation of insulin, a blood sugar-regulating hormone, one feels intense hunger, increasing the risk of obesity caused by binge eating. Furthermore, the

 

The hormones that trigger satiety only transmit signals to the brain about 20 minutes after eating; consequently, there is a high likelihood of finishing a meal and seeking out more before feeling full. Obesity caused in this way leads to diabetes. Furthermore, amylase, an enzyme found in saliva released when chewing, aids digestion and breaks down carbohydrates; however, if you swallow misutgaru (roasted grain powder) as if drinking it, the amylase enzyme cannot be released, increasing the risk of gastritis.

 

◇ Adding sugar or honey exceeds daily sugar intake… Chew thoroughly to enjoy the natural sweetness

 

Some people add sugars, such as granulated sugar or honey, to misutgaru to make it sweet. However, sweet misutgaru can cause various side effects, including high blood pressure, obesity, and impaired bowel function. Instead of adding sugar, be sure to chew the misutgaru particles thoroughly. As the starch breaks down into sugars, you will taste its natural sweetness.

 

The same applies to honey. While one might think that adding it without worry is safe because it is healthier than sugar, honey contains 64 kcal per tablespoon, which is higher than the 53 kcal of sugar. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a daily sugar intake of 25g, which is equivalent to one-third of a tablespoon of honey.

    새로운 사실이군요. 저도 미숫가루를 너무 좋아하는데 그렇다면 미숫가루를 저 같은 경우도 꿀과 함께 넣어서 약간 희석해서 물과 함께 희석해서 호르마신다든지 그렇게 더워서 간혹 시원하게도 마시고 그런 게 미숫가루인 줄 알았는데 일일이 씹어먹듯이 해야 된다는 게 조금은 부담스럽기는 하네요.
