"July is the peak season"... Reasons why adding onions to your meals is beneficial

"Amazing anti-cancer effect"

The study on the frequency of onion and garlic consumption among Swiss and Italians found that the higher the intake of onions and garlic, the lower the risk of cancer development. Onions contain antioxidants with anticancer properties, making them effective in preventing cancer and heart disease.

Additionally, the allicin compound abundant in onions is highly effective in repelling mutagenic substances and preventing various cancers. It also has a preventive effect on diabetes, helping to lower blood sugar levels.

Lower your cholesterol

An 8-week clinical trial was conducted on obese or overweight women with polycystic ovary syndrome, dividing them into a diet group that consumed a lot of onions and a diet group that consumed fewer onions. The results showed that the group with high onion intake experienced a greater reduction in cholesterol levels. It is known that the polyphenol components of onions help lower cholesterol levels.

Blood pressure drops sharply

The allicin component in onions releases nitric oxide, which reduces vascular stiffness and lowers blood pressure. Additionally, the allicin component prevents platelet aggregation and promotes fibrinolysis within blood vessels. As onions have the effect of lowering blood pressure, they ultimately help reduce the risk of coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke.

"Boost bone density"

A study investigating the relationship between onion intake and bone health in women over 50 during menopause found that those with higher onion consumption had better bone mineral density. Notably, there was more than a 20% difference in pelvic fracture risk between people who did not eat onions at all and those who did. Onions are also an effective food for improving bone mineral density.

Relief from constipation, also helpful for dieting

Onions are rich in inulin, a dietary fiber called natural insulin, which is good for digestion. Inulin helps promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and also aids in preventing constipation. Additionally, it has a positive effect on blood sugar regulation and nutrient absorption. It also has an appetite-suppressing effect, making it beneficial for dieting.

Full of antioxidants

Onions, which contain about 40 calories per medium-sized onion (100g), provide 20% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. They also contain vitamin B6, folate, potassium, manganese, and other nutrients. In particular, onion skins are rich in antioxidants such as quercetin, which have anti-allergy properties and strengthen the immune system.
