Seasonal fruits, when eaten properly, are like a 'medicinal herb'
In-season fruits are very helpful for replenishing energy and boosting immunity. Especially, well-ripened summer fruits have many advantages in terms of taste and nutrition.
Nurse Jo Mi-ye from the Hanyang University Hospital Nutrition Team said, "During the ripening process, the resistant starch in fruits is broken down into sugars, which not only increases sweetness but also raises the content of antioxidants such as vitamin C, flavonoids, and anthocyanins."
The problem is that the ripening period varies for each fruit, and leftover fruits need to be stored properly. For example, bananas should ripen at room temperature for 1 to 2 days, and they taste best when the tips turn yellow or when black spots (sugar spots) appear on the peel. Leftover bananas should be wrapped individually in plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator.
For your reference, imported bananas are likely to still contain pesticides, so it is recommended to wash them thoroughly with the peel on before eating. A clear table has been organized to show the ripening period, storage methods, and precautions for summer fruits.
