Watermelon that helps with hydration and antioxidant effects... What are its benefits?

Excellent for hydration

 

Watermelon is composed of over 90% water, making it very effective in preventing dehydration during the summer. Consuming watermelon helps replenish body fluids, aiding in temperature regulation and metabolism. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), watermelon not only helps with hydration but also assists in maintaining electrolyte balance.

 

Antioxidant action is also excellent.

 

Watermelon is rich in a powerful antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene neutralizes free radicals, preventing cell damage, and helps prevent chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Improvement of skin health

 

Watermelon is known to be rich in vitamins A and C, which are beneficial for skin health. In particular, vitamin A helps with skin cell regeneration, and vitamin C promotes collagen synthesis, aiding in maintaining skin elasticity.

Post-exercise recovery

 

Watermelon contains the amino acid citrulline, which helps with muscle recovery after exercise. Citrulline is a substance that improves blood flow and reduces muscle soreness. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in the United States also noted that athletes who consumed watermelon juice experienced less muscle soreness and recovered more quickly.

Increase in blood sugar levels=

 

Watermelon has a high sugar content as it is delicious. In particular, because it has a high glycemic index (GI) that can quickly raise blood sugar levels, it is not good for diabetics to consume too much watermelon.

Excessive fluid intake=

 

Eating a lot of watermelon with high water content can sometimes put a strain on the kidneys.

Indigestion=

 

Watermelon is rich in fiber, but eating too much can cause digestive problems. Previous studies have also reported cases of abdominal bloating or indigestion among people who consumed large amounts of watermelon.
