8 Foods Good for Relieving Acid Reflux

Potatoes are rich in healthy complex carbohydrates and easily digestible fiber. When cooking, it is advisable not to include onions or garlic, which can stimulate acid reflux. Especially in summer, boiling new potatoes in season and using them as a meal substitute is also good for digestion. Besides potatoes, carrots and turnips also aid digestion.

The best beverage for acid reflux is water. Sweetened sugary drinks, alcohol, and sour juices can actually stimulate acid reflux. Carbonated drinks may also worsen symptoms, so it is best to avoid them. Drinking plain water is the best choice.

Watermelon

When eating fruit, choose fruits with low acidity such as watermelon or melon. Especially in summer, watermelon, a seasonal fruit, has a very high water content, helping to relieve heat and thirst, and aids digestion. Seasonal watermelon is high in sugar and low in sourness, which also helps with stomach management.

Our bodies need fat, but greasy foods can worsen symptoms. Avoid butter or margarine and replace them with healthier fats like olive oil. When preparing salads, a light olive oil dressing is better for digestion than a thick mayonnaise sauce.

Brown rice

Brown rice is a complex carbohydrate. Complex carbohydrates take longer to digest than simple carbohydrates like white rice or bread, which helps alleviate reflux symptoms.

Ginger helps soothe an upset stomach. Drinking warm ginger tea without caffeine or dried ginger is effective. When purchasing store-bought ginger tea, it is important to check if it contains a lot of sugar. Foods high in sugar, or excessive sugar intake, can trigger reflux symptoms.
