What is alopecia?
Alopecia refers to a condition where hair is absent in areas where it should normally be present. Hair does not perform physiological functions directly related to survival. However, it plays a very significant aesthetic role. Additionally, it has functions such as blocking ultraviolet rays and protecting the scalp. Severe hair loss can cause problems in social life and may have serious psychological impacts, making it important from a quality of life perspective.
Types of hair loss
Baldness: Baldness refers to male pattern baldness. Genetic factors and male hormones are the causes.
Alopecia Areata: Alopecia areata refers to hair loss of various sizes (round or oval) without any subjective symptoms. It mainly occurs on the scalp, but rarely can also appear on the beard, eyebrows, or eyelashes. In severe cases, all hair on the scalp may fall out (total alopecia: alopecia totalis), or all body hair may be lost (universalis: alopecia universalis). One or several patches of hair loss usually regrow within 4 to 12 months. However, recurrence is common.
Autumn Hair Loss: The reason hair loss worsens in autumn is because hair that has been stressed by strong sunlight and excessive scalp secretions during the summer falls out in large quantities over time. Additionally, a temporary increase in male hormone secretion during autumn, which affects hair loss, can also be a cause.
Treatment methods
It is important to accurately diagnose hair loss and provide appropriate treatment accordingly. There are no specific foods that are particularly good for preventing hair loss. There is no scientific evidence that these foods can cure hair loss. However, a balanced diet containing a variety of nutrients may be helpful.
According to a study conducted in the United States, baldness symptoms are significantly related to heart diseases such as arteriosclerosis. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid excessive consumption of animal fats. Massaging the scalp may help improve blood flow to the scalp, but this is not an absolute solution. Excessive massage could even promote hair loss.
Precautions
