To prevent hair loss, you need to pay attention to hair cleanliness.

 

If not properly detected, sebum buildup on the scalp can clog pores or weaken the scalp barrier, leading to increased inflammation and causing hair loss. Hair grows and falls in cycles, but if scalp health is poor, hair cannot grow healthily, resulting in thinning hair and hair loss as it falls out during growth. How should you wash your hair to prevent hair loss?

 

It is better to wash your hair in the evening rather than in the morning.

 

When you wash your hair in the morning, the sebum on your scalp is washed away and exposed directly to ultraviolet rays. The scalp becomes damaged without a protective barrier, leading to increased sebum and dead skin cells. Additionally, during the day, dirt and other pollutants accumulate on the scalp and hair, and if not washed away, the sebum secreted during sleep adds to the buildup, damaging scalp health. Usually, cell metabolism increases during sleep, and sebum secretion is higher from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

It is better to use lukewarm water rather than hot water when washing your hair in the evening.

 

Washing your hair with hot water can damage the scalp's cuticle layer and keratin proteins, which may weaken the hair.

You must always dry your hair before going to bed. A damp scalp provides a good environment for various bacteria to thrive. Additionally, dust and other impurities can easily stick to it. When the pores become blocked, scalp inflammation can occur, leading to hair loss.

Wet hair is more easily damaged and can break more easily than dry hair. Hair is composed of an inner cortex and an outer cuticle, and when water is absorbed into the inner cortex, the hair swells and becomes more susceptible to external damage. The longer it remains wet, the more water is absorbed into the inner layers, making the hair more vulnerable to external stimuli.

 

When drying your hair, use cold air. Hot air from a hairdryer raises the scalp temperature and stimulates hair follicles. It dries out the scalp and disrupts the moisture balance, leading to hair loss. If you need to dry quickly, hold the hairdryer about 20-30cm away from your hair while using hot air. For areas where hair dries slowly, such as behind the ears or the back of the head, first dry those areas with hot air, then finish drying the rest with cold air.
