(Concern) Does root hair coloring worsen eyesight?
It seems like a few gray hairs are starting to grow.
How often do you dye your roots every few months?
I'm also starting to get a few gray hairs.
At the beauty salon, there's still no need to dye gray hair (it's a bit orange-toned).
They said it would be covered by hair dyeing, but...
And white hair is mainly said to be caused by aging or stress, but it is also said to be influenced by genetics.
In our case, my mother started suddenly developing white hair one by one from her mid-40s.
They say it has increased at an extremely rapid rate.
Since then, she has been regularly dyeing her roots.
I am doing it at the beauty salon, but I am worried after seeing the media say it's bad for the eyes.
Since I can't avoid dyeing my roots again, I'm really worried about whether I can do it or not.
Gray hair typically begins to appear in the 30s to 40s, as the number and function of hair follicle melanocytes decrease and increase in number.
Recently, there have been quite a few cases of sudden white hair appearing at an early age, such as in teenagers or people in their twenties.
White hair that gradually appears on the heads of young people like this is called "sashi."
New hair loss is mainly known to occur due to genetic factors or severe stress.
Additionally, recent studies suggest that nutritional imbalances caused by excessive dieting and exposure to ultraviolet rays also contribute to the issue.
However, to prevent hair loss, it is said that you should cut the new growth instead of pulling it out.
Repeatedly pulling out hair with physical force can cause traction alopecia.
Those who find it difficult and cumbersome to cut gray hair often tend to dye their hair.
But I am really worried about using harsh hair dye to cover the increasing gray and white hair.
I also don't want to see the black and white border line caused by the roots growing out of dyed hair.
Therefore, I regularly undergo 'root dyeing' once or twice every 1 to 2 months.
Is it just me, or are you also worried about your health because of the strong smell of hair dye?
Please refer to this.
I was so worried that I looked it up once.

- Why do my eyes sting after dyeing?
Q. Why do my eyes feel itchy after dyeing?
Hair dye is made by blending various chemicals to allow the dye to penetrate the hair effectively. Among the main ingredients are ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, and para-phenylenediamine (PPD).
Ammonia is a strong alkaline substance that helps dyes penetrate the hair shaft, while hydrogen peroxide destroys the melanin pigment in the hair, acting as a bleaching agent.
The two substances are highly volatile and can evaporate into the air, potentially irritating the eyes during dyeing. The reason why the eyes feel stinging or blurry after dyeing is because the evaporated substances irritate the surface of the eyes.
PPD is a substance that exhibits strong antigenic properties and can cause various side effects such as allergic contact dermatitis, scalp conditions, swelling, and hair loss. However, because it is volatile, it is less likely to cause side effects unless the dye directly gets into the eyes.
Eye irritation caused by hydrogen peroxide or ammonia is usually temporary, and permanent vision damage is rare. Symptoms typically improve within 1 to 3 days.
Q. Are there any cases where you should avoid dyeing?
Eye irritation caused by hair dye affects the outermost surface of the eye, the cornea and conjunctiva. If there are wounds on the cornea or conjunctiva, the irritation may be more severe, so it is better to perform staining after the wounds have healed.
For people with severe dryness, the sensation of irritation can be intense, so it is recommended to instill artificial tears or dry eye treatments before and after dyeing, and proceed with the dyeing process.
Patients who have recently undergone eye surgery should wait until the wound site has fully healed before applying dye, as dye entering the eye during coloring can enter the surgical area and cause more serious complications. Coloring should be done at least one month after surgery.
Since the appropriate timing may vary for each person, confirm with the hospital where the surgery was performed and proceed with staining.
Q. How can I prevent damage to my eye (ocular) health while dyeing?
If hair dye gets into the eyes, immediately rinse with artificial tears, saline solution, or running water. It is important to ensure that no dye remains in the eyes.
If tears become excessively abundant afterward, or if there is severe and prolonged redness, corneal conjunctival damage may be suspected. In such cases, visiting an ophthalmologist for appropriate treatment is necessary to prevent progression to permanent damage.
If you usually have good absorption of eye medication, it is also okay to wear an eye patch or water goggles during the dyeing process.
Whenever possible, reduce the frequency of coloring, and instead of using harsh chemicals, opt for hair dyes containing plant-based ingredients even if the coloring effect is slightly weaker, as this can help minimize the side effects of hair dyes.
