Lady Jane recently revealed she gained a full 9kg... Is it because of 'this procedure'?
Singer Lady Jane (40) confessed that she gained a lot of weight while trying in vitro fertilization.
On the 2nd, a video titled "Everything from Egg Freezing to IVF! Nth Attempt Experience" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Lady Jane'. In the video, Lady Jane revealed that she had previously frozen her eggs and had undergone multiple IVF procedures. She discussed the actual costs involved in the IVF treatments as well as detailed changes in her body, mentioning that she gained 9kg during the process and was reducing swelling through acupuncture and other methods.
Why does weight gain occur during in vitro fertilization?
The official medical term for in vitro fertilization is 'In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET)'. It refers to a series of procedures in which female eggs and male sperm are collected, fertilized outside the body, cultured for 2 to 5 days, and then implanted into the woman's uterus.
On the 2nd to 3rd day of menstruation, ovulation induction injections are administered to induce ovulation. This is to grow multiple follicles, and ultrasound examinations are performed every 3 to 4 days to monitor follicle development. When the follicles mature, an ovulation trigger shot is given, and after more than 34 hours, eggs are retrieved from the ovaries. Men abstain from ejaculation and collect semen three days before the procedure. The retrieved eggs and sperm are fertilized outside the body, and the resulting embryos are cultured for 3 to 5 days before being transferred into the woman's uterus or frozen depending on the situation. The process of transferring the cultured embryos into the uterus marks the completion of in vitro fertilization.
Once the procedure is complete, a blood test is conducted to confirm pregnancy. If pregnancy is confirmed, blood tests are repeatedly performed to monitor blood levels continuously. Once pregnancy is certain, an ultrasound is used to confirm the gestational sac inside the uterus. Even after pregnancy is confirmed, progesterone injections are continued from 3 to 5 days before embryo transfer to support implantation. Progesterone medications include subcutaneous injections, intramuscular injections, vaginal suppositories, and oral medications.
In vitro fertilization involves inducing ovulation to increase the chances of pregnancy, so hormonal injections are administered artificially, and luteal hormone supplementation is given after embryo transfer. During this process, various symptoms such as abdominal bloating, constipation, and appetite changes may occur.
Reasons for weight gain
A physiological case where rapid changes in female hormones cause water retention, resulting in 'edema'.
This is a case where ovarian hyperstimulation symptoms cause ovarian enlargement accompanied by ascites or pleural effusion.
The former is considered a natural physiological phenomenon, but
The latter must visit the hospital for treatment.
Temporary weight gain during standard in vitro fertilization procedures naturally recovers after the procedure.
