(Helpful Tip) Sharing tips for preparing for pregnancy!
Hello ~ I am a newlywed who got married in January.
I plan to start preparing for pregnancy from the end of this year.
From now on, I will share the tips I have diligently studied and researched for preparing for pregnancy!
1. Undergo prenatal testing
Prenatal tests are recommended to be done starting six months before preparing for pregnancy.
Check whether rubella, hepatitis A, and hepatitis B antibodies are present during prenatal testing.
Because if not, you need to get vaccinated!
Since it takes about six months to complete the hepatitis A and B vaccinations, it is recommended to get tested six months in advance.
And in case a problem occurs in the uterus during pregnancy
Since you can't receive treatment due to the baby, it is highly recommended to undergo prenatal testing!
2. Quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption
My husband and I were smokers.
Because I believe I should quit smoking at least six months before preparing for pregnancy
Surprisingly, it was easier than I thought?! I was able to stop immediately.
The problem is my husband. Since he finds it difficult to quit, he received help from the public health center's smoking cessation clinic.
So, my husband is now successfully in his second week of quitting smoking!
My husband and I also tend to drink frequently.
We promised to reduce it to once a week!
3. Taking nutritional supplements
Pre-pregnancy supplements: folic acid, vitamins, vaginal probiotics, omega-3
Nutritional supplements during pregnancy: folic acid, vitamins, vaginal probiotics, omega-3, iron, calcium, magnesium
1) Folic acid
Active folic acid is good (absorbed directly without complex metabolic processes)
- Daily recommended intake: 400mcg before pregnancy, 800mcg after pregnancy
Folic acid should be taken at least one month before and three months prior.
The formation of the fetal neural tube occurs around the 4th week, which is also the time when a pregnancy test turns positive.
They say you should take it at least one month in advance.
The fact that my husband also needs to take it!
2) Vitamin D
- Daily recommended amount: 4,500-5,000 IU before pregnancy, 2,000 IU after pregnancy
Vitamin D is said to influence sperm count and motility, and to help with conception and ovulation.
So, I guess they also did a vitamin D test during the prenatal checkup.
And it helps prevent preterm birth, gestational diabetes, toxemia of pregnancy, bacterial vaginitis, and sleep disorders.
After pregnancy, it is recommended to reduce to 2,000 IU. Excessive intake is not advisable.
3) Vaginal probiotics
Vaginal probiotics help prevent vaginitis, cystitis, and other infections, so women should definitely take them!
Vaginal infections during pregnancy can cause preterm labor, so it is essential to take care of them.
And it also helps prevent constipation, so it's completely great!
4) Omega-3
Omega-3 also helps with vascular health, so it is essential to take it before and after pregnancy.
However, it is not recommended to take it one month before childbirth.
Because it can cause excessive postpartum bleeding.
5) Iron
Iron is one of the essential nutrients to be taken during pregnancy.
However, since it can cause constipation when taken during pregnancy preparation, it is recommended to take it during pregnancy.
During early pregnancy, it is recommended to take it after 12 to 16 weeks due to morning sickness.
If you do not take iron supplements, you may develop pregnancy anemia, so it is an essential nutrient after 12 to 16 weeks of pregnancy.
6) Calcium, Magnesium
- Recommended daily calcium intake for pregnant women: 1200mg
Taking calcium supplements during the 8th week when the fetal musculoskeletal system is forming is said to be beneficial for both the fetus and the mother.
It is safe to take consistently before pregnancy!
Magnesium is said to help with calcium absorption when taken together with calcium.
Additionally, magnesium is said to help prevent postpartum depression, sleep disorders, constipation, and gestational diabetes.
4. Exercise and diet control
You know that exercise and diet control are essential, right?
If the mother is obese, there is a high chance that the baby will also be obese.
So, exercise and diet control are essential!
I try to eat foods full of vegetables and exercise whenever I get a chance, haha.
Thank you for reading the long message~
I will try my best to work hard and have a beautiful baby~!
