I am someone who has frequently experienced both success and failure in dieting.
'Diet' is a word that brings me both love and hate. Gaining weight, losing weight... gaining weight again, then losing it again... this cycle kept repeating, and my weight gradually increased. I'm no longer running around like I did in my twenties, and my basal metabolic rate has decreased. As I age, I become more jaded about life, my passion diminishes, and for various reasons—many excuses—my weight after losing it tends to go up again, and before long, I find myself repeating the cycle of gaining weight back.
Male height 178cm
When I thought I could no longer leave this body alone, my weight was 83 kg. If I were healthy and had a large build, that number would look good, but that's not me...
80kg, no matter how much I gained, I used to laugh and think I wouldn't go over 80 in my twenties... but I am no longer anywhere near that anymore. Hmm... now those numbers have become so familiar, and they've completely settled into my body, really and truly. As a result, my physical strength is declining day by day, and I feel like my joints are aching for no reason. My body feels heavier, and I dislike moving, but on the other hand, lying still and snacking is so enjoyable... As I have changed like this, my quality of life, which is the most important, has decreased.
When the quality of life continues to decline, it leads to a decrease in self-esteem. I enjoy meeting and talking with friends and acquaintances, chatting, and drinking coffee, but I start to dislike those things and become increasingly comfortable being alone. As I become disgusted with my own appearance and find myself intolerable, it probably leads to social withdrawal.
I decided to go on a diet and started exercising.
To be more specific, I started running.
And as of today, I have lost over 10kg and achieved the milestone of reaching 70kg a few days ago. Running is currently my biggest hobby and has given me more than just exercise—it's a gift. Many people are using various methods to diet or have been dieting, but I chose running!
If I talk about the effects of running with a bit more focus on dieting, once you start running and get used to it, you won't easily gain weight. That means there are no negative results.
At least you won't suffer a loss~ I think it would be good to think that way. However, our goal is to remove fat and lose weight, right? We need to gradually build stamina by running and increase the distance we run. Anyone who hasn't run before will get out of breath after just 200 meters, feeling dizzy and lightheaded. I was like that...^^;;
However, if you run slowly at your own comfortable pace, the distance gradually increases. What if the speed remains similar but the distance keeps growing? It means the running time is increasing. Ultimately, I recommend running for more than 30 minutes. It is said that the fat we want to burn begins to do so after about 30 minutes. Before that, nutrients like carbohydrates are burned first. I increased my running time to between 40 minutes and an hour.
Running more than 3 to 4 times a week like this will definitely help you lose weight. I promise.
Ah! Running afterwards is important, isn't it?
I ran 3 to 4 times a week for over 40 minutes each session and ate a light meal mainly consisting of protein and vegetables. The dinner mostly included chicken breast, tofu, mushrooms, cabbage, eggs, milk, and tomatoes, which I ate after running. When I eat so lightly, I feel hungry when I lie down to sleep, and my stomach makes growling sounds.
That gurgling sound is the sound of losing weight, so you can feel proud of yourself, haha. Later, when you don't hear the gurgling sound while sleeping, you'll reflect and wonder if it's because of what you ate, and you'll look back on it, haha.
Recently, I have been running for over 40 minutes, covering a distance of 8 to 10 kilometers, and alternating between strength training and other exercises.
The photo below shows a picture from when I weighed 76kg and a recent photo of around 70-71kg.

I should have kept a picture from when I weighed 83kg, but I really hated how I looked, so I just couldn't bring myself to take a photo.. haha
I remember my eyes, but I also feel a bit regretful for not leaving a record for later motivationㅎㅎ I’ve lost weight through hard effort, but I believe what’s more important is what comes next. I plan to work harder and manage my body to increase muscle mass and boost my basal metabolic rate, transforming into a body type that doesn’t easily gain weight.
If you are interested in dieting and reading this, I recommend starting to move your body right from today.
Advantages of running
The advantage of running is that it doesn't require many preparations. Just running shoes, lightweight functional short-sleeved shirts and shorts for summer like now, a functional hat for sun and sweat, and you're ready to go.
If you invest a little in running shoes that support your weight among your supplies, you can start running immediately by using what you already have at home. For those who are overweight, I recommend losing some weight first to reduce the burden on your knees before running, and then gradually start running very slowly.
After all, the most enjoyable thing is to exercise without getting hurt and lose weight, isn't it?^^
The weather is very hot and humid. Our clothes are thin until September. Let's start exercising now and boost our self-esteem this summer. Everyone, fighting!
