White rice vs. ramen… Which causes more weight gain?
 

If the amount of carbohydrates is the same, which food, ramen or rice, increases the risk of obesity more? "Noodle lovers" should be careful.

 

One of the causes of obesity is excessive carbohydrate intake. However, a domestic study found that the risk of obesity is higher when carbohydrate intake from noodles like ramen and jajangmyeon exceeds total carbohydrate intake.

 

Kangwon National University analyzed the carbohydrate intake and main types of carbohydrates of 137,363 adult men and women and found that the risk of obesity significantly increased with increasing noodle consumption. While 17.9% (6,798 people) of obese patients were in the group with the lowest noodle intake, 22% (8,338 people) of obese patients were in the group with the highest noodle intake. Among 44,307 obese individuals, the risk of obesity was similar between the groups with the highest carbohydrate intake (8,874 people) and the lowest carbohydrate intake (8,523 people).


This is attributed to the carbohydrate milling process. While brown rice and whole wheat are consumed as whole grains, wheat flour is obtained by milling the wheat kernels multiple times. This multiple milling process removes nutrients, such as vitamins and dietary fiber, inherent in the grain itself. Dietary fiber slows the body's digestion of carbohydrates and reduces their absorption, so even when consuming the same amount of carbohydrates, the amount of dietary fiber consumed is crucial.

 

Noodles are low in dietary fiber because they are made from refined wheat flour. 

 

In the case of white rice, rice goes through a polishing process, but it is not ground or ground, so it goes through less processing than wheat flour.

 

When eating rice, it is best to eat brown rice or whole grain rice that is less processed.

 

If you must eat noodles, add salad or side dishes that can supplement dietary fiber. Crabs are good for your health.
