First, vitamins C and E, flavonoids, and other compounds found in fruits have various health benefits, such as eliminating active oxygen in the body and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, eating fruit immediately after a meal causes blood sugar levels to spike rapidly, putting stress on the pancreas and increasing the risk of diabetes. The pancreas secretes insulin when food enters the body. Insulin helps absorb glucose from the blood into cells to be used as energy, and the remaining glucose is converted into fat to return blood sugar levels to pre-meal levels. It takes about two hours for blood sugar to return to pre-meal levels. However, if fruit is eaten immediately after a meal, the pancreas must secrete insulin again. This repeated overexertion of the pancreas increases the risk of diabetes. Additionally, consuming large amounts of fruit causes a rapid rise in blood sugar, which promotes fat synthesis in the body, leading to increased blood lipids and body fat, and can easily result in obesity.

Therefore, it is better to eat fruit before a meal rather than after. Eating fruit before a meal increases the absorption rate of nutrients. Additionally, feeling full can reduce the amount of food consumed, aiding in weight loss. If you eat fruit after a meal, do so 2 to 3 hours later. This is when blood sugar levels have returned to pre-meal levels, and the pancreas can secrete insulin again without being overwhelmed.
