스트레스 억제 도움되는군요 하루 한잔 필수죠
The coffee consumption among our country's citizens is very high. According to Euromonitor, the average annual coffee consumption per person in the country last year was 405 cups, more than twice the global average of 152 cups. As a joke, the reason for drinking so much coffee is said to be "to survive," and indeed, drinking coffee actually lowers mortality rates.
The longer you sit, the higher the risk of death; coffee lowers it.
For office workers who sit for long periods, coffee is a 'lifeline.' Professor Bingyan Li's team at the School of Public Health, Soochow University, China, conducted a study to examine the effects of coffee on people with prolonged sitting time. The research team analyzed data from 10,639 American adults collected between 2007 and 2018. They divided the participants into groups based on sitting time: less than 4 hours, 4 to 6 hours, 6 to 8 hours, and more than 8 hours. They also categorized coffee intake into groups: non-drinkers, less than 326 grams, 326 to 540 grams, and more than 540 grams. The team then analyzed the risk of death considering all factors.
As a result, the longer the sitting time, the higher the risk of death from all causes and cardiovascular disease, but this could be reduced by coffee. The tendency for increased mortality risk with prolonged sitting was only confirmed in the group that did not drink coffee. The research team stated, "This study shows that even if you sit for a long time, drinking a cup of coffee can prevent the shortening of lifespan caused by sitting," and added, "The exact mechanism of coffee has not been confirmed, but since coffee is a complex compound with over 1,000 bioactive substances, further research is needed."
◇ Coffee aroma, suppresses stress through anti-anxiety effects
Coffee also suppresses stress, which is the root cause of many illnesses. A research team at Mahidol University in Thailand conducted an experiment with 32 dental students, giving them a presentation assignment that induced stress. The students were divided into groups and, after their presentations, were exposed to ▲the scent of coffee ▲the aroma of coffee beans ▲unscented (control group). The research team measured their pulse rates and collected saliva samples before and after the assignment. The saliva samples were analyzed for stress indicators such as alpha-amylase, cortisol, and chromogranin A.
As a result, the group that smelled coffee aroma showed a significantly smaller increase in stress levels in saliva compared to the group that did not smell any scent. Heart rate also decreased when smelling the coffee aroma. The type of coffee aroma did not matter.
Meanwhile, stress is a major factor that increases the risk of death. According to a study by Professor Justin Moore's team at Georgia Medical School in the United States, chronic stress is associated with an increased risk of cancer development and mortality.
