스트레스 억제 도움되는군요 하루 한잔 필수죠
South Korea's coffee consumption is extremely high. According to Euromonitor, per capita coffee consumption in Korea reached 405 cups last year, more than double the global average of 152 cups. People jokingly say they drink coffee "to survive," but it turns out that drinking coffee actually lowers mortality rates.
◇The risk of death increases with prolonged sitting, but coffee lowers it.
Coffee is a lifesaver, especially for office workers who sit for long periods of time. Professor Bingyan Li's team at the School of Public Health, Soochow University School of Medicine in China conducted a study to determine the effects of coffee on people who sit for long periods of time. The research team analyzed data from 10,639 American adults surveyed from 2007 to 2018. The research team divided the participants into groups based on sitting time: less than 4 hours, 4 to 6 hours, 6 to 8 hours, and more than 8 hours, and divided them into groups based on coffee consumption: non-drinkers, less than 326g, 326 to 540g, and more than 540g. Afterwards, the risk of death was analyzed by taking all factors into account.
As a result, the longer the sedentary time, the higher the risk of mortality from all causes and death from cardiovascular disease, which could be reduced by drinking coffee. The tendency for the risk of death to increase with prolonged sitting was confirmed only in the group that did not drink coffee. The research team stated, "The results of this study show that drinking a cup of coffee can prevent the shortening of lifespan due to sitting for a long time." They added, "The clear mechanism of coffee has not been identified, and coffee is a complex compound with over 1,000 bioactive substances, so further research is needed."
◇Coffee aroma, anti-anxiety effect, helps reduce stress
Coffee also suppresses stress, the root of all evil. A research team at Mahidol University in Thailand induced stress in 32 dental students by giving them an oral presentation. They then divided them into groups and exposed them to three different scents: coffee, coffee-like aroma, and no scent (control). Before and after the presentation, the team measured their pulse and collected saliva. The saliva levels were measured for stress markers like alpha-amylase, cortisol, and chromogranin A.
As a result, the group exposed to the coffee aroma showed a significantly smaller increase in salivary stress levels than the group exposed to no aroma. Pulse rate also decreased when exposed to the coffee aroma, regardless of the type of coffee aroma.
Meanwhile, stress is a major factor that increases the risk of death. A study by Professor Justin Moore and his team at the Medical College of Georgia in the United States found that chronic stress increases the risk of cancer and death.
