Commonly eaten… ‘Nutrient combinations’ that should not be taken together

While nutritional supplements can be a useful aid in maintaining good health, taking multiple types together can lead to unexpected side effects and potential health risks. Experts at the Daily Mail UK explore the "supplement combinations you should avoid."

First, there's red yeast rice (red yeast) and vitamin B3 (niacin). Both red yeast rice supplements and vitamin B3 help lower cholesterol levels. Dr. Todd Sontag, a family medicine specialist in the United States, cautions, "Supplementing both together can put excessive strain on liver function and cause side effects such as lowered blood pressure, so caution is advised."

Vitamin B3 has a vasodilating and blood flow-enhancing effect, while red yeast rice promotes blood circulation by inhibiting blood clotting. Therefore, when these two ingredients interact in the body, they can have an excessive effect on blood circulation, increasing the risk of hypotension or blood clotting disorders. Red yeast rice supplements work by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver, and vitamin B3 can cause hepatotoxicity in excessive doses, so taking the two together can cause liver damage.

You should also be careful about taking magnesium and calcium supplements simultaneously. This is because magnesium and calcium can interact and reduce the absorption of each nutrient. Dr. Todd Sontag explains, "Calcium can reduce blood magnesium levels, leading to side effects such as muscle cramps and fatigue, while magnesium can interfere with calcium's effect on bone. Therefore, if you are taking these supplements together, it's best to leave at least two hours between them."

It's also best to avoid taking fat-soluble vitamins together. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are stored in the body and are not excreted, posing a risk of toxicity if taken in excess. Taking two fat-soluble vitamins simultaneously can cause liver damage, decreased bone density, and calcium imbalances. To avoid potential risks, adhere to the appropriate dosage for each nutrient. When taking multiple supplements simultaneously, it's important to consult a professional to ensure safe use.

=============

I've been taking magnesium these days

I forgot and couldn't bring it.

I'm trying to pack it for dinner, but it's so difficult.

It's okay to take care of things at work during the day...
