You might gain belly fat by trusting and drinking Americanos...
You like coffee, right?? I also like coffee, especially Americanos.
Now I like Americanos for their clean taste, but when I first started drinking coffee, I thought they might be less likely to cause weight gain compared to lattes.
However... I brought a fun article that challenges my own thoughts.
Drinking Americano regularly may change your body to one that gains weight...
Oh?? It's completely different from what I was thinking, so I read it once.
I will also share this with everyone.
There are people who only drink Americanos to watch their diet. Some call it 'repentance coffee,' as they wipe away the guilt of sweet desserts with Americanos. In fact, a single cup of Americano has about 10 kcal, which is very low in calories. However, if you rely solely on the calorie count of Americano and consume it excessively, you may become more prone to gaining weight. This is because of 'caffeine.'
Caffeine in coffee makes our bodies alert. This is why, after drinking coffee, heart rate and breathing increase, and sometimes a feeling of tension is experienced. In fact, these symptoms are caused by an increase in the stress hormone called 'cortisol.' Cortisol interferes with the action of 'leptin,' a hormone that suppresses appetite. Excessive intake of caffeine can disrupt the normal balance of metabolism and may also affect the secretion of leptin itself. In other words, coffee can stimulate appetite and cause false hunger, making you seek food even when you're not actually hungry.
Increased likelihood of fat accumulation within the body
The difficulty in breaking down body fat is also a problem. The stress hormone 'cortisol' prevents fat breakdown, causing fat to accumulate in the body. In particular, our 'abdomen' has up to four times more hormone receptors that respond to cortisol compared to other parts of the body. In other words, it is a body area with a much higher potential for fat accumulation due to the influence of cortisol. Consuming large amounts of caffeine over a long period can also be problematic, as it activates the sympathetic nervous system and suppresses the parasympathetic nervous system. This can lead to a reduction in chest palpitations, hinder smooth diuretic action, and interfere with the elimination of toxins from the body. If these processes are repeated over a long period, toxins can remain in the body for a long time, potentially leading to a body type that gains weight easily.
Concern about increased cholesterol levels
You should also be cautious about cholesterol. As everyone knows, American coffee is a beverage made by diluting espresso with water. And within espresso, there is a component called 'cafestol.' This is a chemical that affects the body's ability to regulate blood cholesterol metabolism. According to a Dutch research team, a single cup of American coffee contains about 4 mg of cafestol, which can cause a side effect of increasing cholesterol levels by approximately 1%. Coffee oil, which causes a similar effect, is also problematic. To reduce this, it is better to choose filter coffee, which involves pouring water over coffee grounds, rather than Turkish or Scandinavian-style coffee, which involves boiling the coffee. This is because coffee oil is extracted more when in contact with water for a longer period. Filter coffee involves brief contact with water during extraction, and most of the cafestol remains in the filter, making it more effective in reducing its intake.
However, there is no need to worry excessively. This applies to those who do not drink large amounts of coffee every day. The maximum recommended daily caffeine intake for adults, as suggested by the Korea Food and Drug Administration, is 400mg. Based on a standard Americano from a domestic coffee shop, this is about two and a half cups. Therefore, consuming one or two cups of Americano daily can increase the body's energy expenditure without significantly activating cortisol, allowing you to enjoy the positive effects of caffeine. Additionally, moderate coffee intake is related to the prevention of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, liver disease, Parkinson's disease, and depression, so enjoy coffee in moderation to maintain your health.
