I didn't realize that diabetes and dieting are so related. People with diabetes tend to manage their weight more, and

I was surprised to learn that I need to make an effort to reduce body fat.

But why is it that patients with diabetes find dieting difficult?

Diabetes Diet: Why Is It Difficult to Reduce Body Fat?

The reason why body fat easily increases in diabetic patients is due to the influence of various complex factors.

Insulin resistance: Insulin is a hormone that helps move glucose in the blood into cells to be used as an energy source.

Diabetic patients develop insulin resistance, which prevents insulin from functioning properly. As a result, glucose in the blood cannot enter the cells, leading to high blood sugar levels, and the excess glucose is stored as fat, resulting in increased body fat.

- Increased appetite: When blood sugar levels rise, the brain perceives a lack of glucose and signals to consume more food. Additionally, due to insulin resistance, cells constantly feel a lack of energy, leading to frequent feelings of hunger.

Lack of exercise: Many people find it difficult to exercise due to complications or avoid exercising because of the burden of blood sugar management. Lack of exercise lowers basal metabolic rate and promotes the accumulation of body fat.

-Stress: Stress increases the secretion of stress hormones such as cortisol, raises blood sugar levels, and promotes fat accumulation.

Side effects of certain medications: Some diabetes medications could cause weight gain as a side effect.

 

 

If you have diabetes, it is a condition where blood glucose (blood sugar) levels in the blood become elevated, and if blood sugar control is not managed well, it can lead to serious complications such as cardiovascular disease, neuropathy, and kidney disease.

It is not a diet to simply lose weight, but a diet necessary for blood sugar control.

While preventing diabetes is the most important, even if it occurs, blood sugar control through healthy dieting is necessary.
