When the body lacks certain nutrients, various signs can appear on the face. Changes can occur not only when there is an abnormality in the organs but also when various vitamins are deficient, affecting the eyes, lips, and skin. What symptoms might these be?

 

Vitamin A deficiency - Dry eyes, eye redness. Vitamin A is involved in vision, cell growth, and immunity. Therefore, a deficiency in vitamin A can cause dry eyes, night blindness, and other ocular diseases. When vitamin A is lacking, the function of eye cells deteriorates, leading to abnormal tear secretion and dryness or hardening of the mucous membranes. Blinking in a dry state of the ocular mucosa can cause irritation and increase the risk of redness. If symptoms are severe, dead tissue may accumulate on the ocular mucosa, appearing as spots. In such cases, it is good to consume foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots, cassia seeds, mature pumpkin, and cherry tomatoes.

◇Vitamin B2 deficiency - angular stomatitis, perioral erythema. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is necessary for metabolic processes such as skin regeneration and also involved in antioxidant activity. Therefore, a deficiency in vitamin B2 can cause problems in the body's metabolic functions, leading to perioral erythema and swelling, or cracking and soreness around the mouth, known as angular stomatitis. Vitamin B2 deficiency is common among vegetarians and growing children who consume large amounts of vitamins. Since vitamin B2 is not synthesized or stored in the body, it must be adequately supplemented through food or supplements. Foods rich in vitamin B2 include ▲milk ▲cheese ▲eggs ▲cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste) ▲spinach.

 

Vitamin B6 deficiency - Dryness and itching of the body. When vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), which is involved in protein metabolism and the synthesis of hemoglobin and neurotransmitters, becomes deficient, the body becomes dry. This can cause the lips and around the mouth to crack. Since vitamin B6 also plays a role in collagen synthesis, deficiency can lead to itching, rashes, and other symptoms. Vitamin B6 is mainly stored in animal muscles. It can be obtained through the consumption of meat, poultry, and fish, and it is also helpful to eat foods such as milk, bananas, nuts, corn, sunflower seeds, legumes, spinach, and carrots.

 

◇Vitamin B7 Deficiency - Hair and Nail Growth, Hair Loss Vitamin B7 (Biotin) plays a role in aiding protein metabolism. When vitamin B7 is deficient, hair and nails may not grow well, and hair loss can occur. Vitamin B7 is abundant in egg yolks, and is also found in beans, nuts, mushrooms, and animal liver. Conversely, avidin in raw egg whites can interfere with vitamin B7 absorption, so if you are concerned about vitamin B7 deficiency, it is recommended to cook eggs before eating. Additionally, since vitamin B7 is synthesized by intestinal bacteria, long-term use of antibiotics should also be approached with caution.
