'Before meals vs after meals' When should I walk to lose weight?... The experimental results showed

Before meals. If you want to lose weight after meals, it's recommended to exercise immediately after eating.

Walking after a meal has been shown to have approximately twice the weight loss effect compared to walking before a meal, so it might be helpful to keep that in mind.

[Herald Economy = Reporter Jang Yeon-joo] A comparative experiment result has been revealed, showing that walking immediately after a meal is the most effective way to lose weight. It was found that walking after a meal has about twice the weight loss effect compared to walking before a meal.

Last year, the Journal of Sports Medicine published a study stating that exercising after meals is more effective.

A meta-analysis of a total of 8 related studies concluded that exercises such as 20-minute walks have an immediate beneficial effect on post-meal hyperglycemia when performed as soon as possible after eating.

Additionally, according to a comparative experiment published in the 2011 International Journal of General Medicine, walking after meals was found to be highly effective for weight loss.

The experiment compared the benefits of walking for 30 minutes immediately after a meal and walking for 30 minutes one hour after a meal.

Two experimental participants each performed 30 minutes of walking immediately after lunch and dinner and again one hour later over the course of a month, then examined the changes in their weight. As a result, the participant who walked immediately after eating lost about 3 kg, while the participant who walked after an hour lost about 1.5 kg. The experiment was repeated three times in total, but the results were the same each time.

The research team explains that walking reduces weight because it suppresses the rapid increase in blood glucose after meals.

The researchers analyzed that "since glucose levels peak 30 to 60 minutes after a meal, walking should begin before the glucose levels reach their maximum, because insulin secretion acts as a fat hormone," and concluded that "starting to walk as soon as possible is the most appropriate way to control blood sugar levels."
