This thing, which was only thought to be good for constipation... is also good for preventing liver damage.

Psyllium husk refers to the shell of the plantain seed, which is also commonly called plantain seed.

Psyllium husk is said to be particularly good for facilitating bowel movements.

I heard it's thanks to the characteristics of psyllium husk, which is mostly made of dietary fiber.

I also saw people around me lightly taking it in the form of electronic patches.

It is said to be good not only for constipation but also for preventing liver damage.

Since they are actively conducting research, a good treatment will probably come out soon~

  • Blood ALT and AST levels decreased in experimental rats after taking psyllium husk.

Research has shown that psyllium husk (Plantago seed), used as a laxative, is also effective in preventing hangovers and liver damage.

The joint research team, consisting of Professor Ryu Dam from the Department of Gastroenterology at Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital, Clinical Instructor Yang Kyung-mo from the Department of Gastroenterology at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, and Professor Jeong Beom-seon from the Department of Anatomy at Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine, conducted an experiment where mice were given large amounts of alcohol. They compared and observed the group that was administered psyllium husk with the group that was not, and published their findings in a paper.

The research team compared blood tests, liver tissue tests, small intestine tissue tests, PCR (genetic testing), and mouse behavioral experiments. As a result of comparing the two groups, the group that took Chachonchapi after alcohol consumption showed significantly lower blood ALT and AST levels, which indicate liver inflammation, compared to the group that did not take it.

In small intestine biopsies, the group taking psyllium husk showed less intestinal damage, and PCR analysis confirmed lower expression levels of alcohol-degrading enzymes in the small intestine. Additionally, the psyllium husk group exhibited lower blood alcohol concentrations, including ethanol, which play a crucial role in hangover, and significantly reduced expression of inflammatory cytokines and alcohol-degrading enzymes in liver tissue.

Professor Ryu Dam said, "This is a study that confirmed the effect of psyllium husk in preventing hangovers and liver damage caused by alcohol consumption through animal experiments. I hope it will be helpful in developing hangover remedies or treatments for alcohol-induced liver damage in the future."

The results of this study were published in the international journal 'Frontiers in Pharmacology' under the title 'Psyllium fiber improves hangovers and inflammatory liver injury by inhibiting intestinal drinking.'
