"I absolutely won't eat this." What are the five foods that an oncology nutritionist absolutely avoids?

Diet is one of the factors that should be improved to prevent cancer. Nicole Andrews, a registered dietitian specializing in oncology in the United States, shared with the Daily Mail a list of foods to avoid to prevent cancer.

◇Processed meat/red meat

Processed meats, regardless of type, increase the risk of colon cancer. Chemicals like nitrates and nitrites added during the process of making processed meats damage intestinal cells, increasing the risk of them developing into cancerous cells.

Likewise, red meat increases the risk of colon cancer. According to a Harvard Medical School study, red meat damages DNA, increasing the risk of cancer. Nicole Andrews, a registered dietitian, recommends limiting red meat consumption to no more than 510 grams per week.

◇Plant-based milk

Plant-based milks, made from plant-based ingredients like soybeans and nuts, lack nutrients that reduce the risk of developing cancer. "While plant-based milks can be helpful for those with dairy allergies or who don't consume animal products, they lack nutrients compared to regular milk, making them less effective as a substitute," says nutritionist Andrew. He explains that because they lack the calcium and protein found in regular milk, they don't offer the same cancer-fighting benefits as cow's milk.

According to a study by the National Cancer Center's International Graduate School of Cancer Research, people who consumed more than 101 mg of milk per day had a 54% lower risk of developing colon cancer than those who rarely drank milk. The research team stated, "To prevent colon cancer, it's important to review your diet, and milk is the optimal food for increasing calcium intake."

◇Alcohol

"To reduce your risk of cancer, you should limit yourself to no more than one drink a day," says nutritionist Nicole Andrews. The acetaldehyde in alcohol damages the body's immune system and tissues, increasing the risk of various cancers, including liver, colon, and breast cancer.

◇Available drinkables

Sugar-sweetened beverages containing sugar or syrup increase weight gain and inflammation in the body, increasing the risk of cancer. Obesity and overweight due to weight gain are among the causes of cancer. Consuming large amounts of sugary beverages increases oxidative stress and inflammation in the body, which increases the risk of various cancers.

A study by Harvard Medical School and Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital found that women who drank more than one sugary drink a day had a 74% higher risk of developing liver cancer than women who drank three or fewer drinks a month.

◇Sugar

To reduce cancer risk, it's recommended to limit added sugars in your diet to less than 10% of your total calorie intake. Sugar, a refined carbohydrate, rapidly raises blood sugar levels when consumed, increasing the risk of cancer.
