As autumn arrives, seasonal fall snacks are gaining popularity. In particular, desserts made with sweet chestnuts are emerging, as chestnuts are rich in nutrients that benefit health. Let's explore the benefits of chestnuts.

 

◇Good for heart health and stress relief Bam contains high levels of omega-6 and omega-3, essential fatty acids that are not produced by the body, as well as vitamin C. Omega-6 and omega-3 help lower triglyceride levels and cholesterol attached to blood vessels, preventing heart disease. Bam is the nut with the highest vitamin C content among nuts, and its thick shell prevents vitamin C loss even when roasted. Vitamin C is effective in relieving fatigue and helps break down alcohol. Eating raw bam is also helpful in preventing hangovers.

◇Shiny and firm for the best taste To select delicious chestnuts, you need to carefully examine their appearance and weight. Good chestnuts are shiny and feel firm to the touch. Choose chestnuts with clean shells, no holes, that do not float when soaked in water, and sink instead, to ensure they are tasty.

Meanwhile, chestnuts should be stored in a cool place at around 0°C. If left at room temperature, they can easily spoil and develop mold. When storing, wash them with water to remove any impurities, dry them thoroughly in the shade, and place them in a zipper bag or plastic bag. However, to prevent moisture from accumulating overnight, it is advisable to make holes or wrap them with newspaper or kitchen towels before storage. Boiling the chestnuts and freezing them allows for long-term storage. When peeling the chestnuts, pour boiling water over fresh chestnuts and leave them for about 10 minutes to make peeling easier.
