Eating curry dishes frequently... does it prevent belly fat from forming?

Curry and jjajang are foods I often make alternately.

Turmeric, the main ingredient in curry, has various health benefits. Used as a remedy for a long time in countries like India, turmeric is a food that gives curry its yellow color and rich flavor. Increasing research findings are emerging to support these diverse health benefits of turmeric.

According to the American portal site 'Yahoo! Life,' tea made from turmeric offers health benefits. When hot water is poured over fresh turmeric root or dried turmeric powder, turmeric tea is prepared, which contains curcumin, the health component of turmeric, in its pure form.

 

Health benefits of turmeric tea

 

The first is immune enhancement. Curcumin is a polyphenol with powerful antioxidant properties that eliminates harmful reactive oxygen species. This helps protect our bodies from oxidative stress associated with weakened immune function, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and many other illnesses. The positive effects of curcumin on the immune system are not limited to general cold prevention. It can also contribute to preventing and treating cancer by boosting immunity.


 

The third is pain relief and mood enhancement. Curcumin has benefits even for healthy individuals. A study on people without pre-existing conditions showed that curcumin alleviated muscle pain. Another study indicated that the anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin positively influenced mood, attention, and working memory in the general population.

 

In addition to these effects, there is research indicating that turmeric also suppresses fat accumulation, preventing weight gain. Along with the previously mentioned benefits of turmeric, another new efficacy has been confirmed.

A research team at Tufts University in the United States conducted an experiment on rats to observe the effects of turmeric on weight. One group was fed only a high-fat diet, while the other group was given a high-fat diet along with 500 mg of curcumin, a component of turmeric.

After 12 weeks of observation, the rats that took curcumin along with high-fat food did not gain much weight and their blood cholesterol levels did not increase.

The research team explained, "Eating high-fat foods leads to the formation of new blood vessels, causing fat tissue to expand and weight to increase," and added, "In rats that consumed curcumin, the formation of new blood vessels was reduced, thereby suppressing fat accumulation."
