Trembling eyes, not just magnesium deficiency... What did the doctor identify as the cause?
On the 6th (local time), according to foreign media such as the New York Post, Dr. Anthony Yoon, a plastic surgeon affiliated with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a graduate of Michigan State University College of Medicine, shared a 12-second video on his social media platform TikTok demonstrating three ways to stop eye twitching. He said, "Many people experience eye twitching," and "To treat it, you should get enough sleep and reduce caffeine intake." Furthermore, Dr. Anthony Yoon mentioned, "If it still doesn't resolve, you can consider Botox injections." He also added, "Eye twitching can occur when you feel stressed, fatigued, or anxious," emphasizing that adjusting lifestyle habits is important for preventing eye twitching. Why does eye twitching occur, and how can it be prevented?
Eye twitching occurs when there is a malfunction in the neural network connected to the nerve cells in the brain that control blinking.
The main cause is chronic fatigue.
Stress has a significant impact on our autonomic nervous system. It excites the sympathetic nervous system, causing muscle tension and potentially leading to blood circulation problems. Especially when sleep is insufficient or when watching TV or monitors for extended periods, lactic acid, a fatigue-inducing substance, accumulates around the eye muscles, making spasms more likely. In such cases, adequate rest is necessary to alleviate the symptoms.
In addition, ☆caffeine can also be a cause of eye twitching. This is because excessive intake of caffeine from coffee can cause the area around the eyes to twitch. Although the exact mechanism has not been identified, it is suspected that caffeine stimulates the facial nerve, leading to eye twitching. Reducing coffee intake can help determine if caffeine is the cause. Eye twitching caused by caffeine is a temporary phenomenon that can occur in conjunction with fatigue, stress, and other accumulated factors.
Meanwhile, eye twitching is rare but can sometimes be caused by illness. A representative example is "hemifacial spasm." This is a condition caused by the facial nerve being compressed by a blood vessel in the brain, starting with trembling around the eyes, spreading to the mouth, and eventually extending to the entire one side of the face. Additionally, the eyes gradually become smaller and eventually close completely. If it becomes so severe that opening the eyes is difficult, it may be eyelid twitching; if one eyelid cannot close properly or if the corner of the mouth turns when smiling, it could be facial nerve paralysis.
In addition, eye twitching can also be a symptom of cerebral aneurysm, brain tumor, or multiple sclerosis. Therefore, if eye twitching persists for an extended period and seems to spread across the entire face, it is advisable to visit a hospital for a consultation.

My husband said his eyes are twitching, so I took magnesium.
They complained that the supplements were not effective, but there was actually a different cause.
It seems that fatigue is the cause.
